I was urged to join because my cousin did, found it was possible she had gene for certain kind of breast cancer. She confirmed with her doctor that she did, had surgery, but too late. She died a year later. I miss her and I thank her for urging me to join 23&Me.

I was given up for adoption as a baby and never knew anything about my family. I turn 37 next month, last week, thanks to 23andme I found a half brother. That discovery has lead to 3 other half brothers and my birth mother. I will be meeting one of my brothers and my mother for the first time in a few days. I can’t begin to explain this feeling and how thankful I am.

Did not learn a thing

I was so excited to get my results back. My mother was from a long line of Italians. This was more or less confirmed. My father and Grandfather were both born on a reservation in Oklahoma. My paternal Grandmother was Swiss and I think German. This side of my family I wanted to see just how much Native American I was or wasn't. What came back was what I expected about my mothers side of the family, although they were only Identified as southern european and 42 thousand year old gene set. My father's side, northern european and 22 thousand year old gene set. What the heck does that mean. American Indian that came across the land bridge from northern Europe ? This is way too general to be any good. No reference to Italian on my mother side and nothing on my father side. What good is this?

It didn't show me anything I didn't already know and the information is so general it could (and does) apply to 90% of the US population. Waste of money.

Thank you for your feedback. The 23andMe Health + Ancestry Service is the first and only genetic service available directly to you that includes reports that meet FDA standards. You now are able to receive 65+ reports on health, traits and ancestry instead of exclusively ancestry reports.
Keep in mind that each health, trait and wellness report includes a Scientific Details tab that includes more detailed information.
We also have several tutorials and FAQs listed in our Help Center: https://customercare.23andme.com/

I thought I was going to have a detailed testing to find out the origins and history of my background but it doesn't give you any history and basically just tells you what you probably know now about yourself

Thank you 23andMe for helping me find my biological family. I spoke to my mother for the first time last week. She said she loves me and had always hoped I would find her one day.

I was lucky to have been gifted 23and me. I do not recommend the product unless it is made more detailed to the consumers.

Thank you for your feedback. Most human traits are complex, meaning they are not determined by a single factor. Even when we find genetic factors that have a large effect on a trait, they still explain only a portion of it. This means that we can only determine the likelihood of having that trait. That means there is still the chance of not having that trait.
Many other factors influence traits, including your ancestry, other genes, and other non-genetic factors. That’s why we also include a section in each report that talks about some of these other factors. The results are based only on specific genetic factors that we know about now, but our predictions may get better as we learn more.
