I bought this and an equivalent Family Tree DNA test kit for my 92-year-old mother. Although the Family Tree test results came back a couple of days before yours, they were sent with the wrong instructions. It took weeks and a number of emails back and forth before the correct instructions were provided. It was as if Family Tree was being deliberately obtuse. Your results, on the other hand, were easy to access and understand. Thank you.

I bought the kit thanksgiving, received it in three days, sent my results back and got them in a month! Learned that I had a large percentage of European blood and traces of East Asian also.I told everyone about it and got a few of my friends to order too! Im not sure what more people were expecting but it's been nothing but great for me!

I had understood that I had a large part of my heritage as Cherokee Indian. I was surprised to find less that 1% being American Indian. Regardless of the outcome, it is good to have this clarity.

I am not entirely sure of the results. The results do not seperate out by percent of what your geneology is. Results that say you are a percent of English/German or French/German are not very helpful to me. I spent well over 2 hours answering questions that had no bearing on the result that I was looking for but had had to do with 23Andme reasearch for what type of deseases and traits are associated with what regions of the world.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Answer a billion questions, then they send you a book report of your answers? I wonder if I told them that my skin color was black and my grandparents were from Africa that my results would have told me I was black when I'm white? Zero useful information from the saliva testing, IMO. I feel like billing them for my time, in addition to a refund.

part of this, in my humble opinion, is to learn about genetics, and that includes some science for the average intelligent interested lay person, perhaps at the level of the book, the selfish gene. 23 and me needs to have an easily identifiable section to click on to provide reference material for an adult of average intelligence, that is, older than a grammar school student.

I bought this to get information on the presence of genes that affect metabolism but the the reports provided only give information on superficial or highly unlikely genes. The section on hereditary background was ok but again lacked depth, didn't really tell me anything I didn't already know. Don't buy the medical part not enough information to be worth it.

Thank you for your feedback. The 23andMe Personal Genome Service does not offer a report on metabolism. You can preview a full list of available reports here: https://www.23andme.com/dna-health-ancestry/
The population labels in Ancestry Composition refer to genetically similar groups, rather than nationalities. In general, we sought to make the populations as small as possible, subject to the constraint of being able to distinguish between them. Populations may be inherently difficult to distinguish because of historical mixing, or we might not have had enough data to tell them apart.
You can read about the population selection process in more detail in the corresponding section of the Ancestry Composition Guide: https://www.23andme.com/ancestry_composition_guide/

Useless Reports - Way Overpriced for what you get.

The health reports (carrier) are few. The traits and characteristics reports are even fewer and not the least bit interesting. I wouldn't mind if they were part of a large set of less than 300 reports (the way it used to be). But now you only get a few of these. These are examples:
* what hair color and texture you are likely to have (really?) * you can or cannot smell asparagus in your urine ( .... )
Talk about useless stuff - I don't think I need to pay the expensive fee for that. Other services apparently have even better tech now.
Ancestry - lots of little facts and tidbits, I'll concede that. But even that felt a little shallow.
Basically: Overpriced for what you get.
