Pluses and minuses

I have been on 23 & me for about a year. My experience has been somewhat satisfying and somewhat disappointing. It's very tough for people, like me, who have been adopted and don't know anything about their birth family or relatives. You cannot know or understand the frustration and anguish of the experience of going through life not knowing who you are. It's a special type of pain. I was hoping that this service would allow me to find some close relatives, ask a few questions, and be able to connect with family members. No such luck! Unfortunately some people do not even have the decency to respond. All I want to do is ask one or two questions, then I'll be gone. And yet some people just "ghost" you. I don't get that. If someone told me that they were looking for family members, I would take the time to help them. But some people don't have that level of decency. So I'm very disappointed. The service is ok for giving you health data and finding people related to you. But you may not get much more than that. I have been using Ancestry also and have found that helpful. Sorry I can't be more positive.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Generic Results

Both my husband and I did the full DNA with Health sample. For the cost, we found the results to be very generic and lacked insight.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Thank you for your feedback. The 23andMe Health + Ancestry Service is the first and only genetic service available directly to you that includes reports that meet FDA standards. You now are able to receive 75+ reports on health, traits and ancestry instead of exclusively ancestry reports.

Very interesting!

I had to do this because I am white with Red Hair with two dark Hispanic parents. I always wondered how I could be so different from my parents. They both claimed Spanish and Native American ancestry. 23 and Me confirmed that I am 60% Spanish and 30% Native American. I'm just a pale red haired Mexican. Lol!

52 years ago my cousin was put up for adoption, 5 years ago my mom died, each of those things led us to join 23 and me to find out more about our families. 3 months ago we found each other, my aunt found a reason to live again in her grand kids and great grand kids, my new cousin found more family and my world grew again. It's hard to think of a better service than this

Additionally, the data that we report is strictly genetic information regarding your genotype (e.g. the A’s, T’s, C’s, and G’s at particular locations in your genome), generated through processing of your saliva by 23andMe.

I don't think your test are close to being accurate. I'm going to try another company and compare.

For $200. we should receive a hard copy of this info. If I had known that I wouldn't be receiving a hard copy, I would never have submitted my info.

However, you can now print optimized versions of all your 23andMe reports. In addition, we’ve added a summary of all your results to help you share your 23andMe experience with others. To print your individual reports, log into your account, and look for the green "Print" button in the top right corner of any report. To print the Report Summary, navigate to the "All Reports" page in your account and click the green "Report Summary" button in the top right corner of your list of reports.
