Zero Useful Data, Absurd Price

I was given this kit by a relative as a gift. Regardless of whether or not you have a genetic marker for a condition, the answer will be "But that doesn't mean you do/don't have the condition or ever will and if you're concerned see an actual doctor" which is a wild thing to pay that much money for. You can just put that towards a basic statistics course at your local community college and look up prevalence based on geographic area for that level of clinical usefulness. If you're worried, go see a geneticist. You'll be paying them for genetic testing anyway.

Mixed feelings

Mixed feelings. According to the DNA, I have blonde hair. I never had blonde hair. It was always red. According to the DNA, I hate cilantro and love savory foods. In fact, I love cilantro and prefer sweet foods to savory foods. I am surprised there is no genetic test for asthma. Or allergies to cigarette smoking.

I love this stuff but am far more interested in exploring my ancient ancestors and older generations of my family tree, than today's modern humans and my very distant cousins... is there any information that can be included in our ancestries that would pinpoint more ancient ancestry other than knowing how much neanderthal i have?

More detailed African Ancestry report needed!

I have been on 23andme for over three years and in that time I have seen European and all other ancestries get more detailed and pointed except for the African Portion. It is time that we are able to pinpoint the specific areas in Africa where our ancestry originates from. More work needs to be done there. The scientific details need to be more specific. Whatever needs to be done to increase your African reference population should be done. It is taking way too long and you are losing out on potential customers of African descent because the lack of detail in that ancestry quadrant.

Disappointed!

My five sisters and I did this as a Christmas present to ourselves. We thought for our $200 would give us more about our ancestry and family. It seemed the information we received was based on how we answered your questions and we don't have anything about our family genes, ancestry and relatives. Very disappointed, We feel like we wasted our money and won't be recommending this to anyone.!!!

Disapointed in my reports

We went with 23 and me because not only did we want our ancestry, but wanted to know of health issues. The reports for the most part are just averages of millions of people who have similar DNA, No real specifics about yourself. It was very expensive for what you got that is actually usable to you

Thank you for your feedback. The 23andMe Health + Ancestry Service is the first and only genetic service available directly to you that includes reports that meet FDA standards. You now are able to receive 65+ reports on health, traits and ancestry instead of exclusively ancestry reports.

You can preview a full list of available reports here: https://www.23andme.com/dna-health-ancestry/

The data that we report is strictly genetic information regarding your genotype (e.g. the A’s, T’s, C’s, and G’s at particular locations in your genome), generated through processing of your saliva by 23andMe.

Keep in mind that each health, trait and wellness report includes a Scientific Details tab that includes more detailed information.

We also have several tutorials and FAQs listed in our Help Center: https://customercare.23andme.com/

If you are looking for details look somewhere else. A TOTAL waste of money and time. I do not know how this compares to other DNA testing sites but I was extremely disappointed with the lack of information provided. If I hadn't described my parents origins, I don't think I would have gotten ANYTHING close to reality. Again, save your money!!

Thank you for your feedback. The 23andMe Health + Ancestry Service provides access to 75+ personalized genetic reports to help you understand what your DNA says about your health, traits and ancestry.

You can preview a full list of available reports here: https://www.23andme.com/dna-health-ancestry/

While there is a short ethnicity questionnaire that is associated with your profile information, these answers are not used to generate your ancestry results.

The data that we report is strictly genetic information regarding your genotype (e.g. the A’s, T’s, C’s, and G’s at particular locations in your genome), generated through the processing of your saliva by 23andMe. Participation in surveys is completely voluntary. Choosing not to participate will not affect your genetic data.

It helped me to realize we are all in the same family. The human family and eventually we are all related regardless size, shape or color. We are all related eventually.
