Disappointed!

My five sisters and I did this as a Christmas present to ourselves. We thought for our $200 would give us more about our ancestry and family. It seemed the information we received was based on how we answered your questions and we don't have anything about our family genes, ancestry and relatives. Very disappointed, We feel like we wasted our money and won't be recommending this to anyone.!!!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Disapointed in my reports

We went with 23 and me because not only did we want our ancestry, but wanted to know of health issues. The reports for the most part are just averages of millions of people who have similar DNA, No real specifics about yourself. It was very expensive for what you got that is actually usable to you

Thank you for your feedback. The 23andMe Health + Ancestry Service is the first and only genetic service available directly to you that includes reports that meet FDA standards. You now are able to receive 65+ reports on health, traits and ancestry instead of exclusively ancestry reports.

You can preview a full list of available reports here: https://www.23andme.com/dna-health-ancestry/

The data that we report is strictly genetic information regarding your genotype (e.g. the A’s, T’s, C’s, and G’s at particular locations in your genome), generated through processing of your saliva by 23andMe.

Keep in mind that each health, trait and wellness report includes a Scientific Details tab that includes more detailed information.

We also have several tutorials and FAQs listed in our Help Center: https://customercare.23andme.com/

Heritage info was especially obscure and generalized. I was surprised at amount of stated factors preventing more specific results.

Thank you for your feedback. 23andMe offers one of the most comprehensive analyses of your DNA ancestry. We provide you with one of the most detailed ancestry composition reports on the market today. You can find out about your ancestral origins, what percent of your DNA comes from populations around the world, your maternal and paternal lines and your neanderthal percentage.

The population labels in Ancestry Composition refer to genetically similar groups, rather than nationalities. In general, we sought to make the populations as small as possible, subject to the constraint of being able to distinguish between them. Populations may be inherently difficult to distinguish because of historical mixing, or we might not have had enough data to tell them apart.

You can read about the population selection process in more detail in the corresponding section of the Ancestry Composition Guide:

If you are looking for details look somewhere else. A TOTAL waste of money and time. I do not know how this compares to other DNA testing sites but I was extremely disappointed with the lack of information provided. If I hadn't described my parents origins, I don't think I would have gotten ANYTHING close to reality. Again, save your money!!

Thank you for your feedback. The 23andMe Health + Ancestry Service provides access to 75+ personalized genetic reports to help you understand what your DNA says about your health, traits and ancestry.

You can preview a full list of available reports here: https://www.23andme.com/dna-health-ancestry/

While there is a short ethnicity questionnaire that is associated with your profile information, these answers are not used to generate your ancestry results.

The data that we report is strictly genetic information regarding your genotype (e.g. the A’s, T’s, C’s, and G’s at particular locations in your genome), generated through the processing of your saliva by 23andMe. Participation in surveys is completely voluntary. Choosing not to participate will not affect your genetic data.

It helped me to realize we are all in the same family. The human family and eventually we are all related regardless size, shape or color. We are all related eventually.

Worth the additional cost. I purchased over a year ago and new research findings and data are added on a continuous basis. Ancestry is only a small portion of what DNA can reveal about every individual. The also do studies and publish their findings through reputable scientific and medical journals for all to share. You won't regret purchasing health + ancestry versus ancestry only, no matter who provides the service. 23andMe is the only one that does all this and more.

When I first had received my results I became upset. I did not understand the data and some things I heard were in it were not there. Well my bad. After reading thru the way to interpret the data it started to make better sense. I am fascinated and trying to learn more. Looking forward to great success in the future.

While there were no surprises in my dna test, all was as i had been told my whole life. I was surprised that my mother and brother who have also been tested are not listed as related to me. Am i missing something? A hidden report? No i spent moths teying to figure this out. Sure maybe they are not my relatives. Which is ridiculous. I look just like my mom and bro.
