I love the connections you find and the traits that they figure out you have. The best parts are the relatives you see that you never knew were out there. Also, the countries that your ancestors are from.

Very limited information.

I am disappointed with the limited amount of information regarding my ancestral travel. Useless probabilities regarding minor annoyances (offended by certain smells or fear of height). There are consistent efforts for me to spend more money.

Finding my father

I never knew my birth father....not even his name. I only had a story about a letter meant for my mother that came around the time I was born, which my grandmother destroyed rather than give to my mother. Through 23&Me DNA, I not only found my birth father (who sadly had passed in 2011) but I discovered hundreds of relatives who are still living and whom I am now getting to know. I now have my entire family and genetic history and am able to give my children another 1/4 of their information. Since their father was adopted and had no information about his birth parents, now my children have at least 1/2 of their family and genetic history as well. I am so grateful to 23&Me for giving me the gift that no one else in the world could ever give me.....my identy!!! Thank you, 23&Me!

Understanding Myself Better

This was a Christmas gift I gave to myself, the experience has been so cool and positive, and one that my whole family is now interested in. It was validating to see some of what I thought I knew about myself, and to learn some new things too. It's really neat how accurate the information was, and it's also user friendly, so if you're like me and not really knowledgable about science, you can still clearly understand the information. I would love if everyone did this, it's so fascinating.

Vague results

I pertain to an unique Eastern European group with a very specific haplogroup. The results I received were very broad and vague. Slovak?Czech?Rusyn? Ukrainian? Belarusian? Polish? Russian? Wendish? Additionally, I have Some Balkan ancestry, equally vague. Albanian? Serbian? Montenegrin? Macedonian? Bosnian? Slovene? Croatian? Turkish? Greek? Romanian? Surely your results can be narrowed down somewhat. It's akin to saying someone has an Asian background, which means nothing unless you specify from where, for example China, India, Lebanon, and so on.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Thank you for your feedback. The population labels in Ancestry Composition refer to genetically similar groups, rather than nationalities. In general, we sought to make the populations as small as possible, subject to the constraint of being able to distinguish between them. Populations may be inherently difficult to distinguish because of historical mixing, or we might not have had enough data to tell them apart.

Found my brother and family through your 23 and me

Thank you so much for 23 & me DNA. I recently found my fathers son that we did not know excisted. His daughter took your DNA test we were a high match. I recieved a message that she thinks her dad in my dad's son. To my shock he had the same first middle and last name as my dad. It turns out that all he knew was his father was a car salesman and was from ky. His mother told him she picked his name out of a phone book. He though he would never know who his real father was all he knew was he was told his father was a nice man. Being the late 50's and early 60's and my dad being married with 4 children made a diffucult decision for his mother to keep this a secret. She probally had a hard decision to make. My dad never knew he had a son whom was born in Chicago in 1960, as neither did we. I have spoken to him and his daughter whom live in another state now and we had a instant connection, he is a wonderful man as well as his daughter. He plans to visit with his wife this summer, i am so excited i can hardly wait. We would have never know him or his family had his daughter and I not taken the 23 & me DNA test. Wow! what a shock, but a happy one. I just wish my dad had lived to meet his son and grandchildren he never knew about. Thank You 23 & me.....

My cousin bought a kit and I could not wait until I had mine. I discovered that I had ancestries in China, in Africa, in India. Hard to believe !
