Worthwhile investment in yourself

I had already been involved in genealogy when I decided to try 23andMe. I compared numerous product reviews and thought this would be the best. I enjoy the option to contribute to research and the reports. There was a disputed claim in my ancestry and by discovering a descendant from the disputed line that showed a genetic link, I am not fairly certainly of the answer: rather exciting. I find less individuals interested in genealogy than I expected though.

"I FOUND HIM"

My father was adopted, so anything about his health and family members has been behind a locked door. It is 23andMe who has unlocked that door. I am beyond grateful and excited to now know my grandfather's name and the names of more DNA family members I never knew I had and even an answer to why my father had a medical condition that doctors couldn't find a cause for. His father had the same illness! What a great sense of relief to know that. Things are falling into place and making sense. I no longer have to put unknown on forms that ask for my father's father's name. A huge thank you to 23andMe and to my DNA family members who chose to share with me. I close this with happy tears.

Better Health

I signed up to participate in a research study. Getting my genetic data allowed me to discover I have a particular genetic defect. I was then able to start following the diet and lifestyle protocol for my particular genetic defect which has resulted in improved health. Knowledge is power!

Finding Family

I am a 74 year old adopted female. I have been searching for my birth mom and any possible siblings for many, many years. Most of my matches have been fourth cousins or even further out. Until this year. It was accidental. Two people (they are first cousins) were looking for someone else. I had a strong match to both of them. to make a long story short, they are my niece and a great niece. I now have 3 brothers and 6 sisters and a whole lot of nieces and nephews. I went from being an only child to inheriting a whole village. Thank you so much, 23andme.

to have done started about 5 years ago with 23andme. It allowed me to have a better picture of what I was passing to my children and grandchildren. The GWAS also allows for the discovery of previously unknown relationships between symptoms and DNA sequences, allowing for a faster and more accurate identification of potential problems. Thank you for building this ! I wish the FDA had not succumbed to lobbyist pressure and restricted the production of the more detailed reports that were provided in the beginning. My DNA belongs to ME, and the Government does not have the right to keep me from getting the information about it.

Need to have a better explanation as to how to use the data in determining relatives and how to determine which side of parentage relatives relate too.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
