Finding Family

I am a 74 year old adopted female. I have been searching for my birth mom and any possible siblings for many, many years. Most of my matches have been fourth cousins or even further out. Until this year. It was accidental. Two people (they are first cousins) were looking for someone else. I had a strong match to both of them. to make a long story short, they are my niece and a great niece. I now have 3 brothers and 6 sisters and a whole lot of nieces and nephews. I went from being an only child to inheriting a whole village. Thank you so much, 23andme.

to have done started about 5 years ago with 23andme. It allowed me to have a better picture of what I was passing to my children and grandchildren. The GWAS also allows for the discovery of previously unknown relationships between symptoms and DNA sequences, allowing for a faster and more accurate identification of potential problems. Thank you for building this ! I wish the FDA had not succumbed to lobbyist pressure and restricted the production of the more detailed reports that were provided in the beginning. My DNA belongs to ME, and the Government does not have the right to keep me from getting the information about it.

Need to have a better explanation as to how to use the data in determining relatives and how to determine which side of parentage relatives relate too.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

At first, I found the results interesting. But, I was interested in finding some close relations for myself and immediate family to learn about our ancestry more. Unfortunately, People do not seem to want to connect much. Perhaps afraid. So, I Iook at this as a tool to check against other programs to learn about family. As to the health tests and other information excepting ancestry....I cannot tell how specific the results are based on information provided. How many areas of cancer were tested? and others. The characteristics and traits were not accurate.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Find a relative!!

My siblings and I found a sister that we never knew we had. We are not only excited, but quite overwhelmed. Never expected this!!! Thank you 23 and me!!!

I Never Knew!

It’s been a couple of years since I submitted my sample for testing and what a ride! SO many secrets my mom took to her grave in 1978 have been revealed by this simple, no pain test. Before testing, I thought I was of German descent. Boy, was I off... 79% British and Irish! I had NO idea! But the best part? I had a DNA match with a VERYclose relative- my nephew. I had no idea he even existed. Got to meet him, too! BONUS - having a match with PROVES without a doubt who my dad was... now if I could just get his family to talk to me, All would right in the world...

I am very happy with my 23&me results. I have since learned a great deal about my heritage. My family didn't have much recorded in our history, so I was left feeling rather disconnected. I have now learned that I am very much connected to the human family and my ties stretch across the entire planet.
