Not convinced this is accurate. Feel I need to buy another to compare.

Best ancestry admixture

I did a competitor's DNA test before submitting a sample to 23andMe. I have my family tree traced back to at least great-great grandparents on all lines (some farther back) and it's all either Polish, German, or Bas-Rhin France. 23andMe ancestry percentages match my research, whereas "the competitor" put me at 52% British/Irish. Yikes. I also like that parental phasing was very easy to do on 23andMe, just required a sharing request with the parent. I do wish they offered a swab test in addition to the saliva test for older family members that can't generate enough spit.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Some thoughts on the product

I bought this Hoping for answers for my two autistic children.. the report was not clear, too much hoopla, want a more concise report that spells the anomalies found and how they affect the body, and for ancestry would like a sheet that delineates thrvancastries without all the graphics.. explanation can be placed after for people wanting to know more

Interesting and not as thorough as I had hoped ...

Right now it is still just too expensive to justify for most people. It's sad because many of these people will not be around much longer, and that is another set of important data lost. I know this is still an emerging consumer tech, but driving down the cost should be of paramount concern for the company.
I was also a little disappointed in both the lack of health-related info, as well as the broadness of the ancestry data. I was really hoping for more specific location information, as -- for example -- I know for a fact I am largely of Swiss decent, but that just falls under "broadly NW European" I suppose.
Finally, some things were just dead wrong in the wellness area -- even accounting for environmental factors. Overall, while interesting and somewhat fun, I feel I paid way too much for too little info.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What A Great Gift!

My daughter got a 23 & Me kit for me my 60th birthday. For me it was a very exciting gift as I am adopted. Now I know the mixture of cultures & ethnicity that make me uniquely me! The reports were easy to read and have lead me to read and learn more. I feel so much richer for the knowledge & am happy I am able to pass this very specific knowledge on to my children. I am also enjoying the many insights I'm getting form being involved in the research aspect of the program. 23 & Me was a great gift & has been a wonderful experience. I would recommended 23 & Me to everyone who who wants to know just how unique they are!

Vague Ancestry Composition

Was very disappointed with the lack of specificity on the ancestry composition--well over 50% "broadly European/broadly Northwestern European." If the capabilities of the test are that limited, I think that should be more clearly conveyed before I plunk down $200 for results that were not at all insightful.

Thank you for your feedback. The population labels in Ancestry Composition refer to genetically similar groups, rather than nationalities. In general, we sought to make the populations as small as possible, subject to the constraint of being able to distinguish between them. Populations may be inherently difficult to distinguish because of historical mixing, or we might not have had enough data to tell them apart.

Fantastic results!!

The experience has been awesome and I love all the different reports. Going from knowing very little about myself (being adopted) to finding out all this information is just amazing ( a little overwhelming at first, but undoubtedly fantastic!). I've learned more about myself just in reading the reports than I have in 40+ yrs! Plus, a possible relative has already reached out to me. Without 23 and Me, I would never have gotten this far.
I would recommend this to a friend!
