Highly overpriced

Bought the kit a month ago. The report came in fairly quickly, however, the genetic information was fairly generic and I felt that the product was highly overpriced for the level of information it provides.

Not worth the cost for the results. I already knew my ancestors were from Eastern Europe. Too generic.

Thank you for your feedback. 23andMe offers one of the most comprehensive analyses of your DNA ancestry. We provide you with one of the most detailed ancestry composition reports on the market today. You can find out about your ancestral origins, what percent of your DNA comes from populations around the world, your maternal and paternal lines and your neanderthal percentage.
The population labels in Ancestry Composition refer to genetically similar groups, rather than nationalities. In general, we sought to make the populations as small as possible, subject to the constraint of being able to distinguish between them. Populations may be inherently difficult to distinguish because of historical mixing, or we might not have had enough data to tell them apart.
You can read about the population selection process in more detail in the corresponding section of the Ancestry Composition Guide: https://www.23andme.com/ancestry_composition_guide/

the information provided is vague and of little or no benefit, I could have given the same info to someone by looking at them and asking a couple of simple questions. Not worth the price you charged.

I just found out I am 65% British and Irish! My grandmother was adopted and I barely knew my dad's family. St Patty's Day will be a little more fun this year!

Lack of useful information.

I paid for this report expecting to get information on the likelihood in devoloping serious genetic diseases like diabetes, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, etc. I never received this information but my friend in Canada got it. It looks like they don't provide everything to some countries like USA. Instead they tell me what color my skin and eyes are which I already know. Just a waste of money for this. Very disappointed.

We are working hard to be able to add reports on genetic risk for various health conditions. At this time, we only provide the following reports: https://www.23andme.com/dna-health-ancestry/
23andMe will continue to seek FDA authorization to offer new reports.

I thought this was Really DNA based. What it feels like is the take the DNA and by having so many people participate they start drawing potential conclusions based on all the data. Telling me I have a 52% versus 48% chance of having a characteristic is a compelling result.

Thank you for the feedback. Providing each and every one of our customers with accurate data is 23andMe's number one priority. We have several quality control steps during the processing and loading of your data and we are confident in the data that we returned to you.
Most human traits are complex, meaning they are not determined by a single factor. Even when we find genetic factors that have a large effect on a trait, they still explain only a portion of it.
Many other factors influence traits, including your ancestry, other genes, and other non-genetic factors. That’s why we also include a section in each report that talks about some of these other factors. The results are based only on specific genetic factors that we know about now, but our predictions may get better as we learn more.
