Very surprised by the amount of information obtained from DNA testing. Have already heard from a second cousin living in Sweden. Confirmed some information that was only rumor or whispers when I was a child.
I would recommend this to a friend!

The information and history given after paying over $100.00, was a total WASTE! Nothing at all but general info given.. it definitely looks like they faced a block! And let me knew I was from Neanderthal men!!! Bunch of nonsense!

My father and I submitted our DNA to to different DNA processing sites and received very different results. I went on to do some intensive research into our family tree and found that 23andMe was right in the money! Their ancestry results are shockingly accurate and way more detailed than I've seen elsewhere. With regards to the health information, I believe it's reliable because the traits I supposedly have are for illnesses I've seen in my grandparents. I would totally recommend this site and already have! Worth the money!

I bought this kit to find my grandma's origin and I did! She loved it and loved learning about her family origins. She was shocked to see some of her results but she was extremely grateful for it.

Had no nexus to relatives, too general, all I know is my family is from Europe.

Thank you for your feedback. Keep in mind, that DNA Relatives is optional so customers have to opt in to the feature on the account settings page. You can learn how to do this here: https://customercare.23andme.com/hc/en-us/articles/202907210-DNA-Relatives-Privacy-Settings
Ancestry Composition has the ability to assign pieces of your DNA at several geographic scales, according to where these pieces of DNA are found to be common throughout the world. For example, one piece of DNA might be found only in Finnish people, so we can with some confidence call this DNA "Finnish". Another piece of DNA might be found with some frequency in populations within England, Norway and Germany. Instead of choosing arbitrarily from among these regions, Ancestry Composition will label these pieces “Broadly Northern European."
If a piece of DNA is found all over Europe, but not outside Europe, Ancestry Composition will label that DNA “Broadly European." Pieces of DNA found in multiple widespread regions, such as Europe, the Near East, and Asia, will be labeled “Unassigned.

Long wait but interesting results

I waited 5 1/2 long weeks for my results in spring 2017. The results were fascinating. I particularly like the ability to assess accuracy through confidence probability using a download of the raw data, a feature I was unaware of until I read a review about it.

Not worth the expense

For the sophistication of the DNA scientific analysis, I believe the results were very generalized. I didn’t think the test truly allowed me to discover my distant relatives or uncover my unique family history, or even my Health analysis was very vague.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
