I love this product. I am a registered dental hygienist and recommend this product on a daily basis. I have purchased six so far and have given them as gifts. My husband has large hands and still has his wisdom teeth making it difficult for him to use string floss. The only thing I have been able to get him to use is the airfloss. I think it is a terrific product for geriatric patients, people that wouldn't normally floss, those with large hands, people with implants, etc. Another great job Philips! 09/19/2013

Not Dentist Recommended unless....

I am a dentist of 30+ years, so I get to see first hand the effectiveness of many products. This product is well thought out and works quite well. It satisfies the part of flossing that will improve gum health and prevent periodontal disease. For this it deserves 5 stars. It doesn't fully replace flossing because it doesn't break the contact between the teeth as floss does, this is important to reduce the cavities that commonly start at the contact point, an unreachable area with all but floss. So, here it gets zero stars. Philips is correct it does replace flossing in one sense but they are not stating the whole truth. In order to reduce the decay shortcoming Philips could recommend a fluoride rinse be used in the unit, but it doesn't quite replace flosses anti-decay ability in it's entirety. Flossing is highly recommended in addition. There is such a large overlap that use of either (floss or air flosser) on an every other day basis should be adequate for most everyone. For those that want an exceptional regimen, floss, brush and follow up with the air flosser using a fluoride rinse in the reservoir. Lastly, Philips should address the issue of breakage, an all too common problem with this unit, in their defense they do offer a two and a half year warranty, this should be thought of as an expendable product that will need frequent replacement, registering and getting the warranty is useful.
I am not convinced this product performs as advertised. I seems to me that my portable Water PIK product did a more thorough job. Over all I am disappointed and regret purchasing
My AirFloss can be attributed to better check-ups at the dentist office. It definitely does what it's made to do. A couple of the drawbacks are ... the holding tank should be just slightly larger and the absolute worst complaint is the cheap clear plastic lid for the holding tank. Mine has popped off numerous times and if one of those little pegs get bent, smashed or falls off, it's all over ... you may as well toss the entire product. You can't keep water/mouth wash in the reservoir with no lid.
This product was recommended to me by my orthodontist office. I have lower braces. It does great cleaning out the brackets. However, I personally think that it does not do such a great job of cleaning between my teeth. For that floss does best. It's also an easy product to travel with as a I do a lot of traveling and it easily fits into my travel bag.
It took a little getting used to but I like using the AirFloss. MUCH better than flossing with dental floss. I hated trying to use the dental floss and I could never get into a routine of flossing so I rarely did. Now I use the AirFloss almost every time I brush. I brush with my Sonicare toothbrush first and then use the AirFloss and it is very satisfying to see that it often gets more seeds, etc from between my teeth. I just use water (no mouthwash necessary). My teeth and my mouth feel so clean that I feel better all over. Wish I had bought both of these sooner.
Pros: far superior to floss, easier to use than floss
Cons: a little messy

When I use it my mouth always feels so much fresher than when I don't. I wish they lasted a little longer. Philips has always been good at replacing a defective product. This is the 4th one I purchased. I have received 3 replacements under warranty. Never the less, I'd be lost with out one. Works much better than a Water Pik.
