Miss my old KitchenAid cooktop

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We bought this cooktop to replace a twenty year old KitchenAid cooktop that had a big crack in it. I must say that I liked the old cooktop better. The old one was easier to keep clean and looking nice since it wasn't solid black. Instead it had specks of white with the black. The burners were also easier to locate on the old one since they were outlined in white. The new cooktop is completely black and shows streaks really bad no matter how much I polish it. It is also sometimes depending on the lighting in the kitchen kind of hard to see where the burners are. I do like that it has five burners although it would be impossible to use all five at the same time since four of them are so close together. The burners do heat up faster on the new cooktop which of course is quite nice. I also do like the two even heat burners (one with simmer setting and the other one with melt setting.) The cooktop does look very sleek and modern.

Good cooktop with reasonable venting

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was a replacement for an older downdraft unit. The new cooktop does everything it should. Burners heat quickly and evenly, installation was straightforward and vented into the existing ductwork without any problems. I'm not a huge fan of smooth top stoves because they are more work to keep clean, but so far it hasn't been a big issue. The vent works OK but not as well as an overhead vent. Noise level is not too bad, but there's virtually no difference between low and high fan speed on either noise or vent action. It does suck fumes out. We haven't tried the dual burner feature yet. The low simmer works well.
My only gripe is not with the stove, but with the big box home supply store that set up the installation. The installers showed up, saw it was a downdraft and said "we don't install those". The cooktop sat in my garage for two months until I got an electrician to come do the wiring. I did the rest of the install myself rather than deal with appliance installers. Like I said, it's not a difficult install, but I had to go from aluminum to copper wire and wanted that done correctly. Just make sure you get installers who want to do the work and the store that sells the appliance is aware of what their contractors will or won't do.

Poor installation documentation
on December 19, 2021

This rating is for the documentation. We are in the process of getting ready to install one of these units but the documentation is next to useless. All measurements are from the bottom of the countertop and should be from the top of the counter. Where the exhaust hole goes is affected by the thickness of the counter. A counter thickness of 3/4" is way different than a 2" counter when it comes to drilling a hole through a brick wall.
No documentation on the Canadian site so need to refer to the US site. Lastly measurements on website in Canada need an accurate conversion, as 36 inches is not 9,233 cm.

Happy with purchase

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We bought this to replace an 11 year old JennAire cooktop that would not hold a steady degree of heat. It fit the space, holds even heat, my husband installed it without difficulty, and I’m happy with the overall cooktop. My only other comment: it would be great if the down draft fan could be quieter.

It’s fine

(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) There weren’t many options to replace my old cooktop so this was the only option. It works fine but the first time I used it with a pot, it left a ring mark which isn’t really nice to see.

Definitely not the same quality as in the past

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Had our new cooktop installed less than a week ago and already has scratches. Our old one was over 10 years old and no scratches at all...burners went so we had to replace.

So far so good

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So far the unit has worked fine. No issues to date. However we wish that the right hand burner was a 3 way with a smaller ring. We are right handed and have the majority of the counter top on the right side. We do most of our daily cooking in smaller pans. We end up having to use the smaller burners on the left side and have to drag food and stuff across the entire cook top. Also, this puts those mostly used burner close to the edge of the counter top on the left, making them reachable by grandkids.
