Had this out on a three week llama cruise of the JMT National Forest section and it was wonderful! Not only is it a versatile light, but it's a great recharging source. I teamed it up with my Nomad 13, a couple of Guide 10s and some cables for my phone and camera. I love the ability to generate power with the crank. I love the dual light function and the dimmer on/off dial.

My complaint is about the Lighthouse 250 (the Lighthouse 400 is its replacement) I bought this unit in March of 2017 from REI. It was purchased as an emergency light unit should our power go out. When it arrived it was charged, checked and put away in a proper storage area. Every January or February I get out our emergency gear, check it, charge it, and replace batteries on devices that need them. They are then placed back in storage. The 250 was checked and stored as described above. This February I got everything out and performed my annual check. This year (2019) my 250 would not turn on until I continuously operated the knob that turns the unit off and on. The battery was fully charged and the unit checked again. The 250 continued to not light or when it did, would not stay on. This directed me to thinking that the on/off switch is faulty. Now mind you this unit has never been used except to be checked and charged! The battery is fine and has the proper output. I have several other goal zero products and I use them without any issues. I find their products reliable except for this 250. I have been a first responder for over 30 years and have depended on good equipment in my career. My 250 unit was purchased for emergency lighting should the need to arise. To my disappointment, I contacted REI, to which they said it was out of their hands and was a Goal Zero Problem. I contacted Goal Zero and they said they no longer supported the product, and that there wasn't anything they could do. My response was, they could do something, they just chose not to. Since Goal Zero is all about Emergency and portable power, and that my unit is still in its original container, I would have expected a better response. Goal Zero makes good stuff, however I am not convinced that this particular product is a reliable emergency light source. In an emergency, you need things to work! They must also be shelf steady, Which I think their batteries are, but not their lantern. Again I can't speak to the 450, but I see no major design changes to the switch, So it is reasonable to be suspect of the same switch assembly.

I habe bought many LED lights in the past including some that has the option to charge it by a hand crank. This lantern out performs them all. It's brighter, more durable, and hold a charge a lot longer than the others. Add in the several options to charge it and you have the best lantern on the market.
Light works well in all modes except that red leds should be raised higher to see them better from the sides. split function of main light light is great. You are able to direct light to one direction or a 360 degree area. Long life on charge.

I have had the 250. I wanted a brighter lamp for Emergencies. I use any where in the house where I need portable lighting. Fun to use. Recommend highly
