Not all its cracked up to be.

I'm a wilderness firefighter, I find myself using this product mostly to charge my headlamp batteries during the day for night use. However I find no matter how long I leave my rechargeable batteries to charge with the Nomad 7 they have about 1/3 the life of regular batteries. This product is not very ideal for charging my iPhone 4S. A design feature that would make this product more adapted to being adaptable to more emergency oriented situations would be the ability to be able to put regular batteries in it solely to charge electronics and save the recharged batteries for when the user runs out of regular batteries. The little LED light comes in handy as the metal strap on the opposite end allows the whole device to be hung in a tent and used for light. I encountered a very annoying problem, in temperatures above 100 deg (frequently encountered on a daily basis in the west during the summer), there is a little thermal switch that shuts down the devices ability to both recharge batteries and charge devices.

Indispensable! I love my Guide 10 Plus!

The Guide 10 has been great on long hikes. It will charge my music player 3 times with the AA batteries. I also use it with the Nomad 7 to keep batteries charged for our headlamps and one of our cameras when in the field. I also have a USB led light that works well with the Guide 10 in the tent. I also like the led light on the Guide 10; it has come in handy a few times. It has cut down on weight as I don't have to carry extra batteries. This product does what I want it to do and has yet to let me down, and I've had it for 2 rigorous seasons and about to start the third. This product keeps my electronics going and charges fairly quickly with the Nomad 7 solar panel.

Won't Charge Phone

I was really enthusiastic about the concept this charger presents but have been disappointed in performance. I have an LG G5 with a USB-C input, and my battery pack will show a full charge and 10 minutes later be completely drained. My phone will have gained only a 1-2% battery boost if that.

Good for batteries Not devices

I bought this item with a dual purpose use in mind. One for batteries for my headlamp and flashlight and second to use as a power pack for my android phone. Item works good for the batteries but is next to useless for charging my cell phone. I usually get a 10 to 15% boost in my cellphone battery power from the fully charged guide 10 but that is all before it needs to be charged again. Thinking it was the batteries I tried a new set with same results.

In a trip to Poland i was disappointed with the guide 10 plus it doesn't charge Nokia 5230 at all in power-on mode or in power-off mode, the phone says that start charging and in about 2 seconds it stops, by the way old guide 10 charging without problems my nokia 5230 but in 30 min becomes "very hot" Other devices are charging good without problems

Compact and portable!

Great to have on the trail. One day of sun will charge your smartphone to full. I wish the battery pack was bigger, but you can get other battery packs and add them in yourself. I also wish the battery pack was secured to the unit. I've added "velcro" to the back mine to keep it in place.

Great product!

I took this product with me to the BSA National Jamboree. There were not available facilities for everyone there to use charging stations, so these solar kits were really essential. Of course, these products work well on bright, sunny days. We had a rainy jamboree, and I often had a dead cell phone. On a bright, sunny day you can charge the four AA batteries in about 5-6 hours. I never got a good charge on cloudy days.

Versatile and Essential

Okay, there are many other dedicated portable battery products on the market, so what makes this one so good? Simple, it's the fact that you can pop the batteries out and put new ones in. This is great for many reasons: -Update the battery technology as needed, I have replaced the original NiMH batteries with Sanyo Eneloop ultra low discharge rechargeables. When other one-piece portable battery units stop holding a charge, you don't have many options other than buying a new one. -Under disaster conditions, this product is the only one I've seen that allows you to pop in a set of normal akaline AA batteries ( the most common size battery in the world) and have a USB power source as a result. In this tech driven society, having that conversion capability is huge.
