I use the Guide 10 Plus with my Nomad 20 to keep a set of AA & AAA fully charged for my GPS and head lights. Either size fully charged in under 3 hours with the Nomad 20.

This is the second Guide 10 Plus I've purchased. The first works fine five years on, but I needed to expand to a second rig. I've backpacked with it for years, used it to charge phones, GPS, swapping batteries for headlamps. It is durable and reliable. It is cool to be able to charge AA or AAA with any USB source as well as a solar panel.

This is a GREAT battery charger for AA and AAA's

I bought this this month as a solution to managing AA and AAA resources in the "field". I use a Garmin E-Trex, a mag-light, a AAA LED headlamp, and a Nikon AA powered Digital camera. I no longer have to start watching my battery usage. If the sun comes out, this is a very good charger and in a few hours I have four fresh batteries. I have also used it to bump up my Lighthouse 250, and a cell phone. rch

Intermittent light switch

I owned this product for more than a year now but I just use the light switch today and found it intermittent. The light go on and off until I holded and pressed it a bit then the light is firmed. However, still it seems not stable. I reckon the switch contact is bad already. Anyway, overall the battery compartment and overall construction looked good to me.

I bought my Guide 10 Power Bank as part of a package several years ago. I have probably used it a dozen times. Now it has died completely. From reading lots of other reviews on multiple sites, sadly, this does not sound uncommon. I really hope that they have fixed this in their newer Guide 10s.

Reverse Install Protection finally implemented

Earlier models of the Guide 10 Plus had one critical design flaw: If the batteries are inserted revered the charger destroys itself within seconds. I lost two chargers when inserting the batteries accidentally incorrectly in low-light-conditions. This design flaw is finally fixed.
I recently measured the USB charging and USB power generation efficiency:
When charging 4 AA NiMH batteries approximately 65% - 70% of the energy ends up in the batteries. The rest becomes heat.
When discharging 4 AA NiMH batteries 60% - 80% of the battery power makes it to the USB outlet. The rest becomes heat. I noticed that efficiency is particular low when the USB current high and this is unavoidable due to the battery chemistry.
I would find the Guide 10 Plus more useful if the USB outlet is regulated down to a maximum current of 0.5 A to have a higher efficiency. Charging would take longer but the efficiency seams more important to me when using the devise as a power bank.

I have had the Guide 10 Plus for about a year now. I love all the features, but once I dropped it, (not a high hight) it chipped. Wish it was as durable as the other GoalZero products I own.
