I'm still working on setting it up. when I attach a hard drive. It reboots, sometimes I'll Investigate it. Maybe need a firmware update, but I'm still investigatrying to make it work right. It's a great product except for the frequent and random reboots when a hard drive is attached.

We certainly understand the inconvenience this may have caused if the router reboots when a USB drive is connected.
If you are experiencing frequent reboot when you connect a USB hardrive, please check if the USB cable and hardrive are working properly. If these hardware were checked working, please update the firmware if the router is not running version 3.0.0.4.386_51685. You can download the BIOS file at: https://www.asus.com/us/networking-iot-servers/wifi-routers/asus-wifi-routers/rt-ac66u-b1/helpdesk_bios?model2Name=RT-AC66U-B1.

Bought to host VPN software for whole home coverage. Easy to connect .Using Verizon 5G internet with speeds averaging 200Mbps. Router maintained close to that speed when used just as a router. As soon as the VPN was activated speeds dropped down 90% to 25Mbps. Multiple VPN connections gave same result.

It needed a firmware update before it provided reliable wireless coverage. The user interface is very easy to navigate and it was easy to make the network changes I needed to make. It provides great coverage for all my wireless devices.

The process to check for Firmware updates is poor. ASUS did not contact me via email to notify me of the need to update the Firmware on my router. I READ about the need to update it on cnet. I had to use the ONLINE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE ARTICLE to help me update the Firmware on the router.
The first time I signed into my ASUS account to update the Firmware was fine. When I tried to go back in to confirm the Firmware was updated, my User Name and Password were rejected multiple times and therefore I was locked out multiple times. Since both were accepted just 1 hour before, this make zero sense. Now I cannot get into my account at all. So frustrating!

It is old now, but still works great! I am only using it for outdoor WiFi cameras as I have upgraded to newer technology for my main router. It is for only that reason it is not still my primary router.
