We bought this about 3 years ago. It cooks and cleans up well. Recently the handle near the temperature control broke and I can't get a replacement handle for it. I have tried their warranty repair site as well as the internet to no avail. I find it strange that Oster, who claims to be a manufacturer of quality appliances doesn't offer replacement parts. That is why they get only 2 stars and I am being generous.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Temperature is constantly Burning HOT!

I bought this skillet about 2 years ago. It started shutting off and on just like another customer said 8 months ago. You then have to crank it back up to get it cooking again then it is too hot, then once that temp settles it stops cooking again. Just today I smelled a burning plastic smell and the cord was hot to the touch. It stays super hot even on the lowest setting and the temperature light stays on even when you turn it down to simmer and it does not cool down at simmer. Anything you cook on simmer burns because you can't turn it down. If you would like a skillet that works for a year or two this would be the one for you!!

Fire Hazard

Purchased in December 2013. Used less than once a month. Three days ago was using on setting of 275 degrees to make grilled cheese sandwiches. Less than 10 minutes after plugging in saw bright white flash coming from under the pan. After cooling found that in 2 places the coil underneath had bubbled up and melted. Could have been a kitchen fire or worse.

Dangerous -Fire Hazard!

I was using my electric skillet this evening when the heating element completely melted and dripped all over my counter top, destroying it. If I had not been standing right there, it would have started the counter top on fire! I have since read reviews and have discovered that the same thing has happened to other people. This product is NOT safe and should be recalled!

Melt down of element

I have had this frying pan for about 3 years. This morning I was making pancakes when I noticed a small FIRE coming from underneath the pan dripping down on my counter and burning my countertop! I immediately unplug it and was able to put out the small FIRE, but now my countertop top is ruined!!!!!! It appears the entire element had started to melt !!!! Will be contacting Oster for compensation!!!
