Great grill, great price, tasty food

I was very impressed with the performance of the commander charcoal grill. The way that it cooked so quickly made some of the best grilled chicken I've ever tasted! Being able to conserve charcoal is a bonus as well. It is A little tricky to dial in the temperature since it heats up so fast. I plan on primarily using it for grilling, so I wish I did not have to remove a lot of the internal pieces in order to do so. I also wish it had a little bit more work surface and or storage space. I received this product in exchange for my review.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Can't be beat for price!

This is a great item once you learn how to maintain the temp, for low and slow BBQ add a pile of lump and leave a space next to it, dump in a small amount of lit coals from a chimney starter into the space you left open on one side of the unlit charcoal pile. Add your water pan / difuser, grate and food. Close the lid and let the heat rise with dampers fully open, at 200 turn them to nearly closed and go from there until target temp is reached, it takes some practice but once you have a system it's easy and holds temp steady for many hours. The key to BBQ low temps is never open lid unless you need to and close it QUICKLY when you do as the oxygen causes temp to rise fast and hot, use a food probe to track when your BBQ is done, simple , I have the Akorn version, my 2 issues- no side fire door on lower bottom to easily add charcoal (which you don't really need if you add enough to begin with, but adding wood chunks is not doable without taking off food, top grate, tilting water pan/diffuser then adding chunks, by the time you are done your fire temp has spiked, this version has a cooking grid with a much better side opening on the side but you still need to get past the water pan/ difuser, does this work on this newer version? 2nd issue- good start with warming rack but iI wish there was also a much larger stainless rack to serve as a second cooking grid like other brands have, then this would be a must have for every BBQ enthusiast!! I have a separate heat fan controller that maintains the perfect heat if you want oven like set it forget it control, the IQ 110, set fan at 1 or 2 speed, other types are available also, I can confidently walk away for 8 plus hours, no worries
This is by far the best grill! We love it! Top quality! Does way more than just your average charcoal grill!

I'm a newbie to charcoal grilling but am quickly falling in love with it. I just got done with my second cook on it. First was ribeye, and second was pizza's. I know, that opposite sides of the spectrum, but have learned a lot doing it this way.
So ribies were the best I ever made at home. Family compared them to being at a Cameron Mitchels restaurant. Temperature control was very easy as long as I started of with the low temps first (i.e. 350 degrees for Asperigas, sweet potato, etc). Then I turned it wide open for the steaks. It quickly reached 550 degrees, and within a few short minutes they were perfect. Now I'll make a mention here about how the manual says you can shut down the dampeners and it will extinguish itself. This did not happen, in fact it actually shot up to over 800 degrees. No biggie though, it finally ran out of fuel and began cooling down. However, that was several hours later! So you really get the bang for your buck on charcoal usuage.
Second night I decided to do pizza. Same amount as coal as night before, because I knew persons were going to trickle in through out the night. Was able to control the heat much more this time. Basically held it at 550 degrees with one chimney of charcoal for 6 hrs. Pizzas were the perfect amount of smoked.
