Impressive!

Out of the box, the Food Processor was impressive. It really is a well built machine. So far we've shredded cabbage, sliced cucumbers, and pureed tomatoes all with excellent results. It's around twice the price of the average FP but I think it's worth it. This unit is not average. It's quality. Now, having praised this FP, how long it is trouble free remains to be seen. I am hoping for a long life.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I replaced a 20-year-old Cuisinart with a new 14-cup Cuisinart, only to find that the top couldn't be attached to the bowl--defective alignment. It was also much chintzier feeling than the old one that died. After reading reviews (I was a Cuisinart cook, never looked at the reviews before buying), I found others had the same experience AND the tiny spindle that wasn't aligned correctly often broke. So I decided to spend the extra and get the top-rated Breville. Oh, my. I use my processor every day, often several times a day. I've only had it a day, but I've grated zucchini, pureed bananas, chopped nuts and onions, made pie dough (which I had never done in a food processor before--I'm kind of a snob about pastry) and sliced potatoes for au gratin. Everything was perfectly done (although I did have to scrape the sides of the bowl in order to get all the bananas pureed). Someone complained about the cord being short--it isn't. It pulls out from the base a full two feet and I love that it tucks right back into the base. The machine is sturdy, much better made than the Cuisinart. I also love the hole in the plug. That makes it so easy to remove the plug from the socket. My only regret is that I didn't order the plus, but I will get the small bowl and blade when they're back in stock. I'm a converted Cuisinart cook and love the Breville.

Some good some not so much

First, let me say this machine has lots of power and the accessories are great. I've used this unit for about two years and a couple of things just aren't right. First of all, I can't believe a company would make a food processor that has some of its parts not dish washer safe, that's right, the bowl, blade and cover can go in the dish washer but the large dark gray top and smaller pusher must be hand washed??? Secondly, I have not been able to make mayonnaise or thick emulsified salad dressings with this machine. I think the blade doesn't get close enough to the bottom of the bowl to do the job. I recently broke the bowl and someone who didn't know better ran parts through the dishwasher (this made them break apart) I was faced with replace the parts or buy a new food processor. My wife surprised me with a new Cuisinart, not quite the power, 500 watts vs 600 but I can once again make home made mayonnaise and every part is dishwasher. safe.

Disks

I purchased this model in hopes to add on disks at a later time. Come to find out, Breville doesn't make a French fry disk or the cube disk to fit this model, By the time I found out I had already used it. Disappointed that the Sous Chef 12. The main reason I purchased the 12 is that I didn't think I needed a larger size bowl. If I would have known at the time, I would have moved up to the model that supports all the disks.

My
Breville Sous Chef 12 Cup Food Processor, just arrived and I'm excited to get started learning how to use it. However, it did not come with a recipe book. Is mine missing, or do they really have come with any recipes?

Many recipes that will incorporate the use of the Food Processor can be found at foodthinkers.com

Overall the Breville Sous Chef 12 does a good job slicing and shredding, my issue is with mixing, it does not do a good job, hummus for instance, it took a very long time and it was done in batches. I don't feel like the machine could handle mixing a batter. I tried to make mayonnaise, and it just wouldn't go fast enough to emulsify. Perhaps something is wrong with the motor?

Best food processor I ever owned...and I have owned way too many...

I enjoy using this processor and it lives up to the recommendations and reviews.
I have no issues with shredding or grating, but do have one question on chopping with the s-blade. Is the s-blade supposed to be moving up and down the spindle during processing? I see no way to lock it in place on the spindle.

I bought the Breville Sous Chef 12 right before Thanksgiving last year and am back on the site to buy the mini prep bowl and blade that fits inside for smaller jobs. I want to thank the engineers and the production staff for this fine piece of equipment. I had several food processors in the past and didn't use them much because they were a pain to use and clean - it was just easier to chop things by hand - and often the food was either too coarse or over-processed mush. But the Breville is wonderful and I literaly use it every day. First, the chopping is perfect. I can pulse to get very small pieces of onion without getting mush. The slicing works like a charm and it ratchets to just the right thickness. My father was a precision machinist and growing up he would point out the difference between poor workmanship and precision work in the things around us. He would've loved this machine! The blade is stabilized from the base through the top. All of the working parts are machined metal rather than plastic. The plastic (lexan?) bowl is thick and substantial. The top fits the bowl easily, so I can concentrate on cooking rather than food processor assembly. I can not recommend this product more highly. It is also wonderful to see that the prices for parts are reasonable which ensures I will be happy for years to come. Now I wish my mixer would break so I could try the Breville!
