My husband bought this for me for Christmas and I love it but I was so disappointed that interchangeable blades are not offered! When I reviewed a video tutorial, it showed a blade for french fries but my excitement balloon was deflated.

My favorite thing to make is chopped salad using the slicing disk: veg toppings sliced at 4 on the dial, lettuces sliced at the widest opening. Give it all a quick mix by hand and it’s ready to go.
I always used to make tuna salad by hand and thought “why not?” with the regular chopper blade and pulsing to chop/mix—it’s the best-tasting tuna salad I’ve ever made.
Was surprisingly disappointed by the cheese shredding disk. I make homemade pizza regularly and freshly shredded cheese is a must. I don’t know if this machine has too much speed/power but it didn’t do nice shredded cheese like my 25 year old workhorse did. It actually got jammed at one point—I think the power of this machine is too much for pliant cheese. Got lots of cheese bits and pulverized blobs along with the shreds. I might try putting the cheese in the freezer for a half hour to firm it up a little before shredding and see if that helps.
Used the widest opening on the slicing disk to make quick work of redskin potatoes to cook for mashed potatoes on Easter. Can’t believe the amount of time it saved.
So far I love this machine with a surprising disappointment in the cheese-shredding capabilities—that should be a no-brainer basic task for a food processor.
I so love my machine although, upon reflection, wish I had spent the extra money and purchased the 16 cup. More features, etc. I erroneously purchased the 16 cup storage box and discs and, to my great dismay, found they would not fit my 12 cup.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Plastic bowl is cheaply made!

I actually love the food processor but it is useless now because of the cheaply made bowl. The plastic parts on the bottom of the bowl that clip into the base break. Once that happens, the processor will not turn on and is useless. I cannot believe that for the price they charge for this item, Breville has not addressed this issue, even though it has been brought up numerous times in reviews. And, to make it worse, not only are replacement bowls extremely expensive, but they are never in stock. So, now I have a door stop with alot of useless accessories.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Quality, quality, quality

I bought the Breville Sous Chef 12 right before Thanksgiving last year and am back on the site to buy the mini prep bowl and blade that fits inside for smaller jobs. I want to thank the engineers and the production staff for this fine piece of equipment. I had several food processors in the past and didn't use them much because they were a pain to use and clean - it was just easier to chop things by hand - and often the food was either too coarse or over-processed mush. But the Breville is wonderful and I literaly use it every day. First, the chopping is perfect. I can pulse to get very small pieces of onion without getting mush. The slicing works like a charm and it ratchets to just the right thickness. My father was a precision machinist and growing up he would point out the difference between poor workmanship and precision work in the things around us. He would've loved this machine! The blade is stabilized from the base through the top. All of the working parts are machined metal rather than plastic. The plastic (lexan?) bowl is thick and substantial. The top fits the bowl easily, so I can concentrate on cooking rather than food processor assembly. I can not recommend this product more highly. It is also wonderful to see that the prices for parts are reasonable which ensures I will be happy for years to come. Now I wish my mixer would break so I could try the Breville!
Out of the box, the Food Processor was impressive. It really is a well built machine. So far we've shredded cabbage, sliced cucumbers, and pureed tomatoes all with excellent results. It's around twice the price of the average FP but I think it's worth it. This unit is not average. It's quality. Now, having praised this FP, how long it is trouble free remains to be seen. I am hoping for a long life.
