Cheaper than an accountant
on September 10, 2017

I have been using TurboTax for Business for a number of years to prepare the taxes for my S Corp. This will sound odd but the year I started using TurboTax is the year that my accountant passed away suddenly. After unsuccessfully trying to locate a new accountant who was as competent as my old one I ran out of time and had to do something so I decided to see if I could handle it myself with TurboTax. To be honest I was already very familiar with the needs of my business since I had always handled quarterly filings myself and the only thing I used the accountant for was for my yearly state and federal tax filings. Overall it is reasonably easy to use and fairly intuitive. For the federal portion the help is very, well, helpful and I refer to it quite often. However, for the state portion you are presented with little more than an electronic version of the forms that will be filed and the worksheets which are not exactly helpful. This is somewhat offset by the fact that information is carried over from the federal return to the state return so most of it is filled out already, at least for NJ.
What's great about it: Carries data from year to year
What's not so great: Insufficient help for state returns

There were many information during the interview that I didn't know what it was talking about, I had to google search to understand the question. I wish TurboTax would have a"?" that explain what they meant.
What's great about it: I can do it myself
What's not so great: not so clear for Farm Businesses

Couple of fails

Seemed relatively easy and intuitive. There were no cues or questions to let me depreciate my auto or other assets. It wouldn't let me download my required state version I had to call in and spend time purchasing over the phone. I couldn't eFile because the dumb thing couldn't find the file it saved on my computer.
What's great about it: Seemed fairly easy and intuitive
What's not so great: No cues for depreciation; Couldn't eFile; Couldn't get State version without calling in

I'd be nice to know whether or not turbo tax business will file our state tax filings before purchase.
Also, why doesn't Quickbooks online sync with Turbo Tax? Requires an export to a desktop version of Quickbooks.
What's great about it: Straight Forward, User Friendly Interface
What's not so great: Doesn't do my state filings

Pretty good, wish it integrated with QBO

Previously I used H&R Block for doing my S-Corp taxes but this year decided to pay extra and go with Turbotax since I use Quickbooks Online for all of my accounting. Unfortunately the two products, though both owned by Intuit, don't actually integrate with each other and that was very disappointing. Thankfully, the program is so easy to use it cut the amount of filing time in half compared to using H&R Block.
What's great about it: Very user-friendly, easy to navigate
What's not so great: does not integrate with Quickbooks Online

Business Tax Efile delay
on January 27, 2017
Posted by: dieseldawg
Turbotax business program worked well, except that an update on the efile date caused the program to not allow e-filing. This bug caused a 3 day delay in e-filing, and much concern on my part. It is indicative of a programming error, and insufficient testing of updates. Responsible parties in programming should be reprimanded and dealt with appropriately. Credibility is very crucial in tax software, and Intuit should be very concerned about this failure.
What's great about it: Worked as expected except delay
What's not so great: Bug caused 3 day delay in ability to e-file
