Weak on Oklahoma state return
on March 20, 2017

Does not handle exceptions unique to Oklahoma for real estate held for certain consecutive periods.
What's great about it: Does Federal return well.
What's not so great: Weak on Oklahoma state return

Sweet and Sour - 2016 TT Business
on March 21, 2017
Posted by: BigDaddysHouse
Have been using TT Business to complete my LLC's Federal Tax return for almost 10 years. Great program. Easy to understand and use. Complete and concise. Tracks my financial information from year to year. Sweet!
Sadly, my State Tax has never been available and as the State Return is straight forward, minimal, and consistent year after year, I'd have thought such would have been available by this point. Sour!
What's great about it: Ease of Use - Thoroughness - Import Ability
What's not so great: Cost - No State available especially considering the elevated price to acquire.

Outstanding help for small businesses
on March 21, 2017
Posted by: MontePC
I love how helpful this is with finding what I need to find (forms, etc). I'm a small business owner and just want to be guided through the massive tax code to pay what I need to pay.
What's great about it: So easy to use, and helpful too!
What's not so great: Cost..its about the same as hiring a CPA

Works for trusts but needs download
on March 21, 2017

As in past years, the software works and walks you through everything. BUT entering all the 1099 data is a pain. The personal Turbotax allows downloading 1099s and auto-populates the IRS forms. Why is this feature not included in the business software for a 1041???
What's great about it: Walks you through everything
What's not so great: It cannot download 1099s from broker

NJ-1041 Problem
on March 21, 2017

The TT Business, Trust program (1041) does not handle NJ capital gains on State Exempt Muni bond funds. An Override must be made to applicable numbers.
The TT Premier (1040) program allows an adjustment to be made smoothly for the Exempt NJ capital gains!
In NJ both Dividends & Cap Gains are exempt on NJ Muni Bonds and 100% NJ Muni Bond Funds!
What's not so great: Handling of NJ Exempt Capital gains
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Feel Good
on March 22, 2017

I love Turbo Tax, it makes my Tax filing easy enough for me to do it myself. Makes me feel like I got all the deductions that I could get.
What's great about it: Great coverage,
What's not so great: Sometimes I needed information as to where to find the correct information.

So close, yet so far

I use QuickBooks Pro, so all my records were in order before I started. The step-by-step went smoothly and entry is very intuitive. The import function seemed to work, but I was surprised that the system failed to properly allocate the profit/loss according to ownership. So, during the federal review, 4 errors were listed. Unfortunately, the error list directs you to an error, but does not direct you to the form where you can actually edit your correction. It took me to places where the system takes information from other locations to compute the entry. I knew I had an imbalance, but it took me hours to find the base root of the error. I ended up manually correcting the K-1 forms and that corrected the whole thing. However, it baffles me that TurboTax failed to get it correct in the first place, given that I had the correct figures in QuickBooks Pro, I had the proper ownership information in TurboTax and the proper allocation information in TurboTax.
What's great about it: Everything went smoothly and intuitively, except one small thing.
What's not so great: The small thing that didn't go smoothly cost me six hours.

Estate Filing
on March 22, 2017

I like using Turbo Tax, which is the reason I went to Form 1041 through Turbo Tax for handling an estate. It was consistent with how Turbo Tax 1040 operates, which helped greatly. I only wish that some line items within the documents would have had more instructions in Turbo Tax rather than trying to decipher Federal directions.
What's great about it: Similar to how regular Turbo Tax works
What's not so great: Would have liked more line item explanations
