Overall Good Work!
on March 11, 2017

Overall, a good product makes filing my S Corp tax return fairly easy. Would really appreciate a version for a MAC computer as this is the only reason I own a windows computer.
What's great about it: Pulling last year's info. Calculating depreciation.
What's not so great: No version for MAC computer. No filing instructions for Franchise Tax Return.

Trust Returns - pretty average
on March 11, 2017
Posted by: Anonymous
Overall, it helped me get the job done for a Trust I need to manage. I got stuck on several terms where I felt the software could've done more for me.
Trying to come up with a nickname was too difficult for completing this survey. You need to fix that.
What's great about it: Help screens were good.
What's not so great: upon finishing, I didn't feel like using the software got it right.

misfunction of Form CT3.3 in the NY State Business
on March 11, 2017
Posted by: cheung2017
My business has PNOL unused from prior year of 2015 because it comes under the definition of small business corporation under NY State Laws and it has unused PNOL subtraction balance of $44062carried forward from 2015 from the 100% allotment from the base year.
I can use the maximum amount of $18000 from the unused PNOL of $44062 as calculated in Schedule B of the Form CT3.3. However, the Schedule C just populated on line 2 the unused PNOL amount and then did not go on to populate and calculate in the remaining lines 3 to 7 for their required data. The schedule C must be misfunctional as it stopped at line 2. Please investigate the reason for this non functioning.

TurboTax imports easily from QuickBooks - Awesome
on March 11, 2017
Posted by: JohnAPlusTrans
I have been using TurboTax Business for my business for over 10 years. TurboTax always imports last years tax information, which saves me time and it allows me to compare certain expenses each year so I can look for improvements. I am a TurboTax customer for life. Use it and you will agree it works great!
What's great about it: Importing information from Quickbooks allows me to spend more time with my family and less time in the office.
What's not so great: Currently you still have to type some information into the forms, if it had speech recognition that would be better!

easy do-it-yourself tax prep
on March 11, 2017

I love that you can switch between the step-by-step guide and the forms view if you need to review with a prior year. Copying everything from the prior year is also very helpful.
What's great about it: help, review of return
What's not so great: not always clear that the review is finished

I imported my prior year 1120S that was filed with TurboTax Business 2015. The import was somewhat seamless, except that the prior year balance sheet was incorrect. After two phone calls to Intuit customer service it was fixed. As an FYI, I was told intuit does not provide business tax consulting and was unwilling to resolve the issue above until I stated it was an administrative issue with their software.
We use Zoho Books for our SAS based online accounting system. It is a significant upgrade by comparison to QuickBooks desktop or online. TurboTax Business does not allow one to import a competing accounting system company file to speed the tax prep. Intuit does not allow for the importation of a company trial balance report as TaxAct Business.
It appears that intuit would prefer to provide a limited user experience and make filing and completing the 1120S more difficult if you don't use Intuit QuickBooks.
So, the preparation was a little more labor intensive vs simply doing an import and mapping to the appropriate tax categories.
All in all, mediocre experience, fairly expensive for Fed & State 1120S being filed electronically. One could easily download the 1120S and state 1120S from the IRS, fill in the blanks, and mail the returns a lot faster.
What's great about it: Imported last years Co, K1, and M1 data
What's not so great: asked me what forms were needed for state 1120s
