Could be more complete
on March 14, 2017
Posted by: heron4
Not being able to import info from my broker caused me a lot of extra work. For what this costs, it should be more complete. If I'd known this before I bought it, I wouldn't have.
What's great about it: Cheaper than Block
What's not so great: Cannot import from broker
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Need to support Quickbooks online
on March 14, 2017

Since Intuit has been pushing everyone to QB online, they should support that accounting package. Its braindead that it only supports the desktop product when entering information. Makes me want to dump the online product and go back to desktop.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Still doesn't support QB online

TT Business lacks capabilities
on March 15, 2017
Posted by: EDC37
Not only is TT Business desktop incapable of importing bank and brokerage 1099's and partnership K-1's, as TT does, but I discovered after completing three trust returns that TT Business was not on NYS' list of preparation software that were approved vendors for e-filing fiduciary returns. Not only large vendors, but H&R Block and TaxAct were approved, but not TT Business. Outrageous. Their website says you can e-file states. I don't know what other states you cannot e-file, but if you are not approved to e-file NY, combined with not being able to import stock transactions, then it is worthless.
What's not so great: Not qualified by NYS to e-file fiduciary returns
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Ease of Use

I highly recommend Turbo Tax for business and personal use. I have been using Turbo Tax since 1994 and would not consider other options. Calculations are accurate and the software can be now be accessed online for personal returns. I prefer actual CD for business.
What's great about it: Turbo Tax Business was easy to use
What's not so great: Forces user to create balance sheet even though one is not necessary for my business type.

long time Personal - 1st time Business
on March 15, 2017

I have been using TurboTax since it was distributed on 1.44M 'floppy' disks. The personal edition has developed a strong knowledge base for novices. The interview, while somewhat tedious in areas where one is comfortable, does well to insure one does not forget items and understands the items being included.
- I am a first time TtaxBusiness user. While I can go online (often to the AnswerXchange) and lookup a variety of things, I would have loved to have had more example situations included in the Business edition. It could show, for example, how to handle startup costs for a new small business with $0 income versus $50,000 income. Some examples showing the pro's and con's of allocating space within my home for conducting business would also help. Examples are great resources! Please include lots of them to show when a choice may be beneficial or detrimental.
What's great about it: familiar
What's not so great: could be better for new businesses
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Information transfer
on March 15, 2017
Posted by: JJKbest
Accounting data on QuickBook Pro have been very hard to transfer to Turbo Tax software.
M-1 and M-2 reconciliation instructions are confusing. The reconciliation work usually spends 50% of entire tax return filling efforts.
What's great about it: Follow the instructions to enter accounting data
What's not so great: Automatic transfer from QuickBook Pro to Business Turbo Tax software never worked for me
Pros: I bought or sold investments
