Quickbooks Online is USELESS with turbotax
on March 5, 2017

Come on Intuit, you own both companies, when are you going to make QBO compatible with Turbotax? What a nightmare.
What's not so great: There is no workable way to import QB online into Turbotax

Awesome, but not perfect

It's Turbo Tax, so, it doesn't need any introduction. Nevertheless, sometimes it asks me if I need to file certain forms. I'm not a tax expert. Therefore, I'd expect the software to tell me whether I need to file them, not ask me.
What's great about it: Almost everything
What's not so great: It sometimes asks me if I need to file certain forms

TT business was little more than just a dumb editor for the forms. Very VERY little help.
zero help for creating W-2s my main need.
All the way through I felt I had to google and guess. This is not why I buy TT
What's great about it: none
What's not so great: didn't give even simplest help for w2 taxes

S Corp Taxes Done!
on March 6, 2017

For a simple 1120S return the software was easy to use and got the job done. I don't know if other software packages would have been better because this was the first time I filed an 1120S.
What's great about it: Fairly easy to follow
What's not so great: Can't easily jump back to a point in the process to edit
Pros: I bought or sold investments, My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Awful

This is by far the worst experience for me this year, after over a decade as a Turbotax customer. Extra fee for state return. Agonizing time trying to download state product. Every attempt to purchase product online failed, after about 5 tries. Finally had to call a representative and get a code over the phone. An ordeal.
What's not so great: Extra charge for state return. An ordeal to download.

Glitchy and frustrating

I have an accounting degree and 19 years experience filing taxes. I am filing for an S-corp. I imported a file from Quickbooks and needed to override some of the pre-filled info. For example - I imported one amount for payroll of everyone and needed to split out the officers from employees. It would not allow me to do so. I tried 3 times and finally had to enter all my info manually without an import at all. There were rounding errors prior to the manual input which made me come up $1 off and were very frustrating. It tells me there are no errors, even after running the review several times. I filed, then tried to print and it tells me "Your return has errors." Are you kidding me? Will not purchase this next year.
What's great about it: Much cheaper than a CPA
What's not so great: Program errors when trying to override

painfully slow

I've used TurboTax for the last 10 years of our Sub S corp which has been in business for over 40 years and this year's incarnation was great to the point where it needed to print out the forms I required, then it took literally an hour to print 20 pages! The State side of the equation was also slow and I got stuck several times in the attempt to transition from the federal side to the state payment for product side.
What's great about it: usual good transfer of data from previous years
What's not so great: slow to print and difficult state transition
