Does not work for me either

I have a Hero 5 and they work very well, but with my hero 8 not at all. Same cabling and it’s like the camera just ignores the fact the adapter is on there and uses the external mu
Ike which is just noise. Very frustrating to say the least.

Problems and workarounds

This product is very well if... There are more IFs, so I think the Gopro's firmware is the main problem or the adapter itself.
I use a Stilo WRC-03 intercom* with this adapter and I connected some version of Gopros (Hero 5, 6, and 8, all were black edition). I had problems with all of these. Many times had no audio at all on the record and do not know why. I read some advice about using this adapter, for example to switch the quick capture off, and switch the auto power to NEVER (as it is always connected to a charger while the races, it is not problem for me). First I connected everything and set the POWERED MIC on the Gopro. The followings happened with the mentioned settings:
* what is working (switch on) only if one of the two helmets (a specified one) is plugged in
I tested and noted many cases what we did in the past when recorded the race. I hope now I know how to workaround this problem, hope it helps to others.
1. case WORKING
If I plug in the helmets and the Gopro is on, after I plug in the adapter (while the USB-C and the jack are plugged)to the adapter), I have audio on the record. (I can see in the settings 'AUDIO INPUT POWERED MIC')
2. case WORKING if I reconnect the audio cable or the adapter while everything is plugged in and switched on.
3. case WORKING
If I plug everything in, set AUDIO INPUT to LINE IN, I have audio on the record. BUT it is very quiet. It is not option for me, because the car is very noise while racing, the co-driver speach can not be heard with this settings.
4. case NOT WORKING
I connect the helmets first and after this plug in the Gopro, after switch it on, but there is no audio at all on the records. In the settings there were 'AUDIO INPUT N/A'
5. case NOT WORKING
I plug in the adapter to the Gopro first and switch the Gopro on, after plug in the helmets (or just the specified one what is switch the amplifier on when it is plugged), there is no audio at all on the records. In the settings there was 'AUDIO INPUT N/A'
There are more cases when audio is not on the records, but who bought it, can try to make videos with external mic.

This works great I been using it for about 7 months now. I have a rode mini that I connect to it and it’s a charm. I have a GoPro hero 9 black.

Junk

I bought one for my Hero 5 Black. Who would have thought you need a GIANT adapter to run a small microphone to motovlog? The adapter they sent was garbage and finally GoPro covered it under warranty. Even with the new adapter, the audio was hit or miss. If you plugged this in after turning on the camera, issues such as static/low volume or no audio would occur. Just to record audio you need a lengthy ritual of ensuring everything is in place (USB-C doesn't click into place), so you never know if you're capturing audio until AFTER you review your footage. It's a pain that you can't simply plug in an external microphone. Because of this, I don't motovlog. Who knows if what I'm saying is going to be recorded or not.

Nicholas,
Thanks for reaching out. The HERO5 is an early model, and audio capabilities on the new HERO9 and HERO10 are much improved. Hope this helps.

Doesn't work

I was excited to finally get something that would allow me to connect my rode wireless mic and get decent audio. But it doesn't work. Tried everything, it's complete garbage. I should have taken note of some of the other reviews that said the same thing.

why so useless?

bought it in order to record myself while riding my motorbike,, also bought a cheap mic to be able to give the sound to the gopro and thanks to the comment also had to buy the passdoor.
i was very exited like, recording without the mic is a bit boring. got the mic with a standard 3.5mm jack and got some adapter with it, even a usb C to jack then i was like oh yeah let's try them, first the ultra cheap adapter since it came for free with the mic and it work great, no noise or anything else than my voice, second test, using this adapter and guess what: not a single sound, the best way to loose time and money. Had to test the usb C adapter too and yes it work but again, spending that much just to have the Type C cable connected to an extender throught a door and every part was paid, really useless
