Too big, too expensive

Not sure why this adapter has to be this size, but it's so incredibly awkward to use.

Excellent for Cockpit Audio

I was really hesitant at first reading some reviews of people having issues with audio, bad design...blah blah blah. But....actually, although expensive, this adapter is excellent and like any GoPro product, the quality is very good!! I am using to record audio from cockpit radio in an aircraft and it works perfectly!! The key to getting the audio correct for me was making sure the Hero 5 audio setting was set to 'Line In'. From there, no issues. The clarity is excellent and actually, although the design of the dongle is a little big, it works nicely because you can have your line-in and charge the GoPro at the same time.

Garbage... but no choice

The audio quality on my GoPro H6 is inaudible with the native mic. So I had to buy this expensive piece of garbage just to get any audible audio at all. When I plug it in, it's not only about the length of the camera, it's too big and creates an unnecessary addition to the form factor. It's not very secure because it's just plugging in to the USB-C port, the audio still sucks even with a Saramonic mic! Although the sound is now intelligible, it sounds like I'm in a tunnel AND there's an occasional buzzing sound because EVIDENTLY the external mic adapter picks up the buzzing due to the WiFi from the GoPro being ON!! AND, if you haven't noticed. The adapter stupid expensive! Rip off. Very disappointed in GoPro.

Frechheit

Die Funktion, ein Mikrofn an die GoPro anzuschließen ist bei vielen Kameras Standard. Nur GoPro benötigt ein absurd teures Adapterstück, welches noch dazu total riesig ist.

Works half the time...

I have been using this for a bit now, and it is just starting to annoy me, as it will work maybe half the time. The GoPro hero 5 session and the adapter are mounted to my helmet, so the don't move at all when I'm riding. Basically If you turn off your GoPro and turn it back on the mic adapter will stop working and there will be no audio. All in all it is not worth the money as it is way to expensive to not work more than half the time I use it.

Works fine with Hero5

Excellent audio quality. Yes, a little clunky perhaps but that's because it contains lots of electronics (has its own analog/digital converter). And it gives you an USB-c as well as the 3.5mm jack so you can charge/power while the mic i connected.
The 3.5 mm mic connector must be 3 pole (called trs). However, if you use a mic made for use with an iPhone (e.g. RODE smartLav+) it will have a 4 pole connector (called trrs) intended for connecting headsets, and you'll then need an adapter such as the RODE SC3 (trrs to trs). You could also use a headset to PC adapter (easy to find) and only plug in the mic connector (often red or pink) into the GoPro adapter. Just google "headset to PC adapter" to see what it looks like.

Too big

The audio out of the Hero 6 is just horrible. Lots of background noise , clicks,... and now you need the 'brick' to bypass Gopro's failure to provide acceptable audio quality. The adapter is too big, to expensive and on top of that you still need a microphone. This was definitely my last Gopro.
