The alarm is absolutely useless

We bought this today to use as a Bluetooth speaker as well as an alarm clock. The speaker itself works great, and the volume for both the radio and the Bluetooth audio is plenty loud. But for some reason, you literally can't turn up the volume of the alarm clock or the radio. There is no way this alarm would wake you up unless you literally had the clock taped to your head so the speaker was right in your ear. I used a decibel tool to measure the difference... When the regular radio is on, at full volume, it averages about 70dB, which is the equivalent to "loud music". When that same radio is run through the alarm, it was averaging about 45-50dB...which is the equivalent to a "quiet library". If it's important for you to be woken up in the morning, don't buy this product.
Pros: good sound quality when playing music or radio
Cons: the alarm buzzer and fm radio are way too low..., no way to increase the volume of the alarm
It is a shame that a company such as Philips has put out a product that just simply does not work. You cannot adjust the sound of the alarm clock buzzer, the docking station does not work if you have a protection shell on your phone not to mention it is to awkward to plug your phone in. I really tried to deal with all the issues but you shouldn't have to no matter what the cost.
Cons: buzzer volume doesn't work, docking station doesn't work
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Works okay but noisy transformer makes it unacceptable

It's a nice little radio for very cheap: I was able to use the micro USB to use it as a charging dock for my Kindle Paperwhite, after adding a bit of padding to the right side to balance the unit (some moron at Kindle engineering thought it was bright to put the charging port over to the side instead of in the middle. However, on the first night I had to unplug is because the transformer emits a high pitched sound that is very annoying in a quiet house. I tried other outlets with the same result. I see others have complained about Philips transformers on other clock radios having the same issue, so I won't buy another one. No one wants to live with a high-pitched whine in their home.
Pros: compact
Cons: transformer emits noise

The alarm on this thing will not do what you think it will!

If you have an iPod with an old style connector (don't even ask me which connector I have, I don't know 30 pin from 100 pin ... whatever). I have an iPod Classic with one of those wide connectors. Even Apple no longer sells something that works with this thing. However, since this Philips product had a picture of an iPod Classic on its box, I assumed it would work with my iPod. It does, but not without the iPods own charging cord AND an auxiliary jack plugged into the ear bud hole on the iPod and in the jack hole thingy on the Philips product. Ugh. Took us an hour to figure that out, then back to the store to buy that jack. Then we figure out that you cannot set the alarm to use your iPod music as the alarm. What?!? How stupid is that. The entire reason you buy a clock radio with an iPod dock is to use your iPod as your alarm. Oy Vey.
We are taking this thing back today.
Pros: cheap
Cons: can't use like ihome, you get what you pay for
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great with my iPod

I received this as a Christmas gift strictly for use with my iPod, and I love it. The sound quality is pretty good for such a small unit. The iPod attaches easily and I have no trouble removing it either. My only criticism is that the buttons are almost impossible to read, so I put yellow dots on the ones that I use the most.
I would recommend this to a friend!

No bluetooth playback on alarm

Bought this unit to use with ipod and play music over bluetooth as an alarm.
The alarm function only allows you to choose buzz or FM and not bluetooth as a source for the alarm.
I, unfortunately, made the assumption that the bluetooth function would work with the alarm. It doesn't state that in the instructions or box.
taking it back.
Pros: sunk up to my bluetooth device relatively easily.
Cons: not able to use bluetooth source as an alarm.
