I own a MB5420, it's just over one year old. The logic board just went in the printer and CANON just told me that they don't sell the parts for this printer even though they are still making and selling the printer!! I used to be a big CANON fan!! NO MORE!!!

Everything you need for home or small business!

I would like to note that I received a free sample in return for my honest review of this product.
I have operated a small business in my home for several years now. I have been using a different brand for the last several years and have never been happy with the overall product. Between my business and personal needs, I felt that I needed a higher end product. I have definitely found it. First, I would start off with my only negative about the Canon Maxify MB5420. It is definitely larger than past all-in-one printers that I have used. I was surprised when I took it out of the box. One note is that it has a similar footprint to others, but is just taller than most home printers I have seen and used. Now I would like to note that there is a reason for this- it is a fully loaded all-in-one that makes my life easier.
The most obvious and simplest feature that I love is the high capacity paper trays and ability to handle several different sized paper. Also, though I have not needed refills for my ink yet, it will be much more cost-effective than my last brand. Obviously, you have the ability to easily print, scan, copy and fax. Set-up was very easy- I had it up and running in about 30 minutes. It connects with my computer and even with our mobile devices through our wifi. I even have an app on my phone for quick and easy printing on the go. This was a nice surprise, with the ability to print out pictures or documents quickly and easily right from my phone.
I have also noticed that the speed of scanning and printing are very fast, in comparison to my last one, which was a high end home printer from another popular brand. I have not even gotten a chance to use all the features the MB5420 has yet. I look forward to the next time I need to send a 50 page fax or scan a 100 page legal document. From what I have seen, it will take a fraction of the time and effort that it normally would have in the past.
I highly recommend this product. Whether for its capacity, speed, or ease of use, among other things, Canon Maxify MB5420 Printer has made my hectic life a little bit simpler and easier. It is perfect for small business or home use. I have already recommended it to my brother for his home use.

A HUGE dissappointment

I purchased this useless machine about 6 months ago and it has provided me with nothing but headaches ever since. I print and scan about 90 – 100 pages five days a week for work. From the unit overheating while scanning, to ink smudges, to having to register the paper trays every time I put paper in them, to paper jams, to skipping pages while scanning, to scanned items coming out all askew, this machine is just not up to its hype. It is a worthless!!! I have had three different Canon products and they have ALL been a disappointment. Never again will buy from Canon.

Great Home Office Printer

First and foremost, I would like to say that I received this printer in exchange for agreeing to write a non-bias review. I have never used a Canon printer before. I have always found myself sticking with other printers. However, when I came across the Canon Maxify MB5420 with claimed better output quality than other wireless small office all-in-one printers, I simply could not pass up the opportunity to try this printer out. I was pleasantly surprised by how easy this printer was to set up. When you first take it out of you will note that it has a little weight to it, but is somewhat comparable to other like-printers. They pack and tape it unbelievably well; it takes a few minutes to find and pull off all the taped points. The next thing you notice is that they have thorough warning sheets and pretty detailed setup instructions. I had the instruction manual open, but everything was as simple as 1-2-3. This printer has two 250-sheet trays for a standard capacity of 500 pages. For scanning, you will notice that it also has a 50-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF) that scans both sides of your paper. What impressed me the most was how easy it was to connect the printer up to my home WiFi. I simply entered my password using the number keys on the printer, and I was off to the races! Another neat little feature is the mobile printing option. I was able to download the Canon Print app, and the connection was simple as flipping a light switch. I was able to print immediately from both my Samsung Phone and my Acer tablet. From the printer itself, you can access the Maxify Cloud Link-which let you print from online sources and upload directly to Google Drive. Did I mention that you can also use the printer via Google Cloud Print? This neat little function allows you to send documents from 'ANY' Web-connected computers, smartphones, and devices. I was able to test this feature by sending a copy of an email to my home printer. To my surprise was the quality of prints coming out on the paper. As grad school starts to ramp up, I've been busy prepping and preparing lesson plans for the classes I teach. I was printing out all sorts of resources and materials for my class, so I can say I have had a chance to put this printer through the ringer. Every time, the print produce quality prints on a consistent basis. Consistency is what will win me over time after time. Also, another neat little feature is the automatic double-sided printing feature. I've yet to experience any paper jams. I am, however, interested to see how long the ink lasts being both a professor and small-business owner. Instead of printing papers at the office, I can now bring work home and print out all of my students' papers at home using my new Canon MAXIFY MB5420 printer. The printer has surpassed all of my expectations. Thanks Canon for producing a quality small office printer.
Overall - It is an excellent choice for anyone looking to purchase a small office inkjet all-in-one printer with fantastic output quality, and a generous paper capacity.

Impressive Machine with Useful Features

I received the Canon Maxify MB5420 to use in exchange for my full and honest review of the device. I was very impressed and would recommend the printer for both home use and for small business use. I received this printer about two weeks ago. I took it to my office where I work for a very busy construction company. We have a ton of paperwork and use printers/scanners/copiers/fax machines every day, all day long. Some of the people who use the printers are not office types of people but Canon has made this printer very intuitive so everyone has been able to use it without difficulty.
I was very impressed with all of the functions available on this device. In the past, we had to purchase additional trays or feeders for our printers or had to pay a much higher price. I have looked up the price for this printer and found it very reasonable considering the great quality and the functionality of the device. It is a little larger than some desk printers but it does not take up too much space or look too clumsy. It actually looks rather nice in my office and at my home. It has duplex (two sided) printing and has two cassettes that hold up to 500 sheets of paper in total so I don't have to keep loading new paper into it all of the time. The cassette that can hold envelopes, holds up to ten envelopes at a time. The cassettes can also hold photo paper, labels for printing, and up to legal size paper.
There is a flat bed for scanning books or for scanning several originals together and there is also a document feeder which can scan 50 sheets of letter sized paper at a time. The automatic feeder can scan both sides of the originals in a single pass and also scans legal sized paper. I really like that it has an automatic document feeder for the scanner because I often need to scan several pages of a document but always have to lay the pages onto a scanner bed one page at a time and then flip them over. Now all I have to do is put my documents in the feeder and it automatically scans them, no more scanning a page at a time and flipping over in between! I think it is great that it also has the flat bed scanner because sometimes I need to scan items that cannot be put through an automatic feeder. It is the best of both types of scanning.
The printer has many different settings to customize it for what you need. It can be used wirelessly, through ethernet or by USB. It took me about an hour to unpack and set up. I first tried setting it up on an older version of Windows (7) and it was taking too long so I stopped and set it up on a computer that is running Windows 10. The installation onto the computer using Windows 10 went much faster and once I had it completed I went back to the computer using Windows 7. It then went onto that computer a lot easier. I would suggest that if you are going to be sharing this printer with other devices and computers that you first start by setting it up on the newest, most updated operating system and then putting it onto the older operating systems next.
When unpacking the printer and removing the orange pieces, do not rip them out or pull too hard, if you get the right angle they should just slide out pretty easily without much force or twisting.
Another note is about loading the paper into the trays/cassettes. I used the quick guide which showed how to make the cassettes longer by holding a certain button and pulling the cassettes lengthwise (at first, it looks like paper will not fit into the cassettes) but when I put them back in with my paper loaded, I was unsure that I had them correct because the cassettes do not fit all the way back into the printer once they are loaded with letter or larger paper. That is okay, it is supposed to be that way. The cassettes do stick out when loaded with paper but not in a bad way. The tray where the printed or copied paper comes out pulls out over top of the cassettes so that you don't notice.

I absolutely love it!

I acquired the MB5420 Maxify as a free sample without knowing a thing about it other than it was a Canon printer; I absolutely love it! I am an attorney and have great need to produce and print high quality legal documents.
Straight from the box, I felt that there was something very special about the MB5420, it required no assembly other than loading its ink cartridges, which was easy to do. The machine is extremely well built and has the look and feel of a very high-end piece of office equipment. It holds a total of 500 sheets of paper in two paper trays with intuitive paper installation. Canon MB5420 can be used with a computer, a tablet, a smartphone with cloud services, or just a USB stick. The printer is wireless, yet can be hardwired to a router or to an individual computer, but the set-up is so easy that I opted for wireless, both with my phone and laptop. A PC will need Windows 7 or higher and a Mac will need OS 10.8 or higher, though my Mac, running 10.7.5 Lion, installed a driver and then used Airprint for wireless printing; everything works, so I am not upgrading to 10.8 anytime soon. I used my Samsung Galaxy Note Edge phone and was so impressed with the Canon app that I almost didn’t try it on my laptop.
A printer is only as good as the product it produces; print quality is all-important to me. I have never come across an inkjet printer that could compare to a laser printer, but I must say that the Canon MB5420 comes very, very close, in fact, it comes close enough that I shall never hesitate to print a letter to a judge or other important person using it. As far as color printing goes, it is amazing. I downloaded a scan of a watercolor painting of the gorgeous river that flows less than 500 feet from my childhood home in Massachusetts, which has overlooked that river since 1880. I printed the picture directly from my Android phone using the Canon app. The app allowed me to properly size the picture before printing. I hit the print button and the result literally stunned me --- The print looked as if the artist had just finished the painting and I was looking at her work from over a century ago. Right down to the look and texture of the coldpress watercolor paper.
I scanned 49 pages at once, some of them double-sided, and the auto scanner did everything, automatic feed, double sided scanning when necessary and it placed the originals nicely back together in a tray. The scans went directly to my USB, though they could have gone to either my phone or laptop. You can adjust the quality of the scans, but even on the lowest setting, the scans look great and show no signs of image degradation even with type sizes as small as 6 or 8 points. Scanning is fairly quick, a lot faster than I would have imagined. Copying is a pleasure.
The MB5420 can also print from the cloud using Google or Canon cloud services; it can access Dropbox or Google Drive and print PDF files stored there.
I rate Canon MB5420 a perfect 5 out of 5 stars. There is nothing that I don’t like about it. I did not use it as a fax machine, but I am confident that that feature is as good as the rest.

Great for Business!!

I received this product for free in exchange for my review. When I received this printer I was shocked, because I didn't expect to receive something so high tech to review. I must say this is just what I needed to help me continue to build my business on the Administration side as a Professional MUA (Makeup artist).
I must say that the setup process takes some time to get down, but once it's finished you're ready to get rocking. I love that this printer has the capabilities to print, scan, copy and fax. I love the wireless capabilities as I have been able to connect my smartphone, tablet, laptop and desktop to it. It has so many awesome features to choose from as well. I also love how it's already quiet while printing, however, it has an additional feature called the quiet setting. I also love the 2 drawers for holding paper of different sizes.
The full color printing comes out poster ready. I have printed quiet a few things on this printer and I'm excited to say that I am in love with it. Although I have yet to print envelopes or pictures taken with my smartphone, I doubt this printer will disappoint at any capacity. If anyone is in the market for a printer to use for business and/or personal use, I highly recommend the Canon Matrix.

I received this free printer to review and I'm very satisfied.
PROS: 1). Excellent quality when printing 2). Eco-friendly - can print double-sided 3). Can work wirelessly or wired 4). I was able to print from my computer, tablet and my phone after downloading the free app (very easy to set up) 5). Able to print, scan and fax
CONS: 1). Printing is pretty slow 2). The set-up instructions were not very clear, especially when loading letter paper. Took me quite some time to set that part up. 3). The printer only works with later operating systems, so I had to update my Macbook before being able to print 4). VERY large and takes up my entire desk 5). Pretty loud when printing and shakes the entire desk
