This Cusinart 14 cup food processor is powerful, has a large capacity and is easy to operate. I looked at several other Cusinart food processor models as well as other brands and decided on this model. So happy I did! I wanted something with a large capacity and large feed tube but did not want fancy bells and whistles. The 2 blade discs and stem store nicely within the container itself thus not requiring an extra storage bin. This model truly is the classic and operates perfectly. As with other small appliances I own, I always hand wash with warm soapy water and wipe down the electronic part with a soft cloth.
I bought my previous DLC-8Plus way back in the mid 80s and it had served for for many years of use. It finally gave up and I needed a replacement. Given my experience with the older unit, I opted for a new Cuisinart food processor with a bit more capacity.
First off, the base unit and bowl are quite good. They perform as I expected them to and I was not disappointed in the base unit.
My only disappointment came when I found that the selection of discs included with the base was very limited and then further discovered that the types of discs available was less than the old unit. You just cannot get some of the options that I was used to having. To make matters worse, the available discs were hard to find on the website, many were out of stock, and shipping was slow on the ones that were available. A much better job could be done here. Much.
On balance, now that some of the additional discs are trickling in, the unit appears to be of good quality. It performs as expected and the safety interlock on the new bowl and lid is superior to my old system. I take some points off because of the limited number of discs included, the difficulty in finding what will fit my unit, and the availability of the options that should be easily purchased. (but arent')
All-in-all I'd grade this a solid 8 out of 10. The base is easily a solid 9.
I’ve been using the Custom 14 for almost a year and it consistently does a great job. The port for adding liquid has an incredible design that allows for a steady stream. Best food processor I’ve owned.
I bought my first Cuisenart almost 40 years ago. The bowls at that time were made of the same material used for airplane windshields and they were very sturdy. I had that machine for 30 years. The new bowls are flimsy. Pieces break off that prevent them from locking in place so you can turn on the machine. Replacement bowls are so expensive you might as well buy a new Cuis. I am now on my second one in ten years. It's disappointing. I love them when they're intact and working.
