Ignorance Isn't Bliss, Obviously...

First off, I want to say that most of the complaints on here aren't because of the actual printer. A great deal of wireless routers automatically drop printers after a certain amount of idle time. All you have to do is turn the printer off and then turn it back on and it will print just fine.
Second, the quality, the style, and the overall functioning of this printer is awesome. It does everything that it says it does and it does it rather well. My only issue (after an entire year of using it for school purposes) is that if it sits for a few weeks, you have to run the cleaning option so that it prints correctly, AND the ink runs out entirely too fast... but then again, I print stuff for school often. I found an amazing site to alleviate this problem though because the ink is more than 60% cheaper than Epson's site.
GET THIS PRODUCT! IT IS GOOD!

Junk, just plain Junk!

Always having errors communicating with printer. Only fix is to turn printer off and then on again. If lucky you'll get up to 5 minutes before an other error. I use it once a week, I have to clean printer heads before each use or it prints out "bar-code" looking prints. Worst Epson I've ever owned! Ink tanks don't last long, even much shorter, since I have to clean print heads every time before use. Obviously not as friendly with my Mac as expected with all the errors. Online print feature has never worked right out of Box. Can't get it to print from my iPhone! I checked for driver updates there isn't anything new out to fix this issue. Last Epson I plan on buying. Faceplate is cheap, plastic squeaks and pops every time I enter commands.

I had own a Epson before, but do not recommend this one. Back feeder was not installed correctly, and lazier kept clogging. Had to clean several times and after 15 copies completely stopped copy only copy about every 4th line & fuzzy.

This worked great the first few months then I started to experience problems. Constantly changing ink cartridges and printing issues. Still trying to correct both.

Printer uses a lot of ink. It will not print correctly if one of the color cartridges is low or empty, even if you are only printing something in black ink. Then you have to purchase the low ink just to print off your documents. I would not buy this printer again.

Not even a year old and will not print black the first time I replaced the cartridge. Frustrating piece of junk. Done with this company if they have no simple way to resolve such a huge flaw in their product

Size is great and started out printing nice. I needed to replace the black cartridge. That was easy but now the printer does not print all that is on a page. I have gone back to realign the printer several times and it still does not work right. It was cheap and that is most likely the reason. It is not useful as a printer. The scanning and other components work fine.

Easy to Set Up - So, So Photo Printing
on June 18, 2012

The XP-400 was easy to set up as a WiFi networked printer. It prints standard 8.5x11" text documents quickly. Photos do not have the depth of color and shadow exhitited by the Epson Artisan 830 line. That's due to the difference in the range of ink colors available on the 830 line (6 including light cyan and light magenta) and the XP-400 line (4 excluding light cyan and light magenta). Photos also print quite slowly compared to the 830, at least partly a function of the fewer ink colors on the XP-400. The small footprint is very nice. Apple AirPrint works fine for text documents, but I had hoped photos would come out better. There is not option to select paper or other parameters as with other iOS apps. But that's Apple's weakness, not Epson's.
