I do not like this printer

I replace ink constantly. I used nearly 1/2 the new black and had to replace the 3 colors just trying to clean the ink dots tonight. Why is this printer using magenta more than the black when I print in black? No I do not like this printer. Even the larger size ink does not last a month for the little printing we do. in your q "level of expertise" In what field? computer genius? Oven cleaning? Brain Surgeon? Cat fishing? Define it.

The Epson XP-400 is reasonably priced printer, it does everything I need, which is print and scan. The only issue I have is that any maintenance to the printer is done at the printer not through the computer i.e. cleaning, also the scan interface is rather dull. +

How to Scan a Page and Save As pdf or jpg file.

It took me a while to learn how to scan and save the scanned image into my pdf files folders. The following info may help you.
1. Set the Epson XP-400 as your default printer 2. Turn on printer and use its screen to press the "house" icon to bring you to home. Then use the arrows to select Scan and press OK. Then from the options select Scan to PC pdf. The only option for me is the USB connection. 3. Turn on your computer. You need to have the printer on before you turn on your computer. Otherwise, you'll receive a notice that a USB connection has not been made. 4. From your desktop select and turn on the Scan icon. Then press scan and you will be prompted in the next screen where to file the scanned document. The only choice that works is "pictures". Continue and press scan. Then either of the two will happen. Your scanned image will appear in a folder inside the pictures called My Scans, or there will not be a folder called My Scans and your scanned document will appear as a PDF document that has the name image 020.pdf if that is 20th image today. If you had selected from the printer screen Scan to PC, you would have received inside the "pictures" folder your scanned image as image 20.jpg. You then copy the image20.pdf and close out the Scan and desktop. Then open the folder for your pdf files. Example, I have a folder called Home Insurance which I pasted the image20.pdf into. And then I renamed the scanned image with today's date and Insurance Application.

High Ink Usage without printing
on October 15, 2013

Two major problems with this unit. We use the printer about once a week. The heads have to be cleaned every time we use it, wasting ink and time.
Second, there appears to be no way of printing only B/W when one of the color cartridges is low.
We are working with EPSON to change the machine out in warranty, hopefully this will remedy the situation. In the meantime I cannot recommend it.

Very Frustrating ... To Say The Least

Compared to other brands, I've had to replace the ink cartridges 3x faster. Does not have the best quality of print. Won't allow me to save scans directly to the appropriate folder. I have to scan, find, cut, and paste. When I try to log onto my Epson account, it does not find my email address. (I have the emails to prove that I registered.)

Nice Printer/Copier/Printer

We have had the XP-400 for over a year.
All 3 functions-printing, copying and scanning- work well, on both wireless and wired connections.
Ink use is moderate, better than I have had with other brands' all in ones.
Although paper jams are very infrequent, when they do occur, there is excellent access to the printer paper feeds to clear them.
For basic home office use, this has been an excellent machine for us.
