Don't like it!

This printer drinks ink like a barfly, which wouldn't be so bad if it at least printed well, but it doesn't. No amount of head and nozzle cleaning will take the faded lines out. And the ink level monitor is a joke. One minute it says levels are full, suddenly it refuses to print, because one of the inks was empty. I do not like this printer at all.

Great all-in-one printer at a great price. Easy to set up, easy to use. Makes sharp copies. Scanning copies for e-mail is easy when using a network computer. Easy to change ink cartridges. I like the idea of the individual color cartridges. This saves money on ink.

Seemed good at first

I was very happy with my printer the first few times I printed. Pictures came out nice, the colors were great. Then the ink disappeared quickly, and you can't print ANYTHING or photocopy etc. if ANY of the 4 cartridges are empty. All 4 must be full even if you just want to quickly print something black and white. I've called the customer service people a few times, and they're always nice, but I wish I had purchased something more simple. Sometimes fancy technology just isn't what is needed.

multi-function but

It prints text ok. It prints color photos poorly. It scans, but not very clearly. It copies. And in the 7 months I've been using it, I've spent nearly 2x as much on ink as the machine cost.

Report on attributes of Epson all-in-one xp-400

It works as described. Small footprint is excellent. Copier function is excellent. General use for black on white printing is good. Color printing is only so-so with respect to any rich color expectations. Requires operator tuning of settings and paper stock to get improved color printing. Wireless printing is way t o o s l o w. Ink cartridges are used up too quickly and tending to 4 different ones is a bother.

We bought the XP-400 as our first wireless printer. We had had all-in-one's before. This one was fine for about two months, then started printing pages haphazardly. We couldn't get a properly printed page out of it, even though we worked through the nozzle cleaning process several times. Further, it ran through ink at an amazing rate. We went through three black cartridges in those first two months (and we don't print that often). The color ink levels went from nearly full to below half while completing three or four nozzle cleanings and test pages. That was the last straw. I wasn't about to send it to the company and lose time working through the warranty process when it used ink so quickly. We did our research and finally bought a much sturdier and more efficient laser printer. The XP-400 was inexpensive on the retail shelf, and we seem to have gotten what we paid for.
