Back to Epson!

After a few months using a so-called cheaper-ink competitor, having to run the printhead cleaner day after day just to get a few clean pages, using up endless wasted ink and paper -- it's SO NICE to have another Epson! I don't know yet if they last as long as the ones we used in business before retirement, but already I feel more comfortable with a trusty old friend. Love the DuraBrite inks and separate color cartridges! Easy setup with clear instructions. Outstanding software with great adjusting options.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I've only had this a short while, but it seems to work well and the setup was easy. I have no negative comments about it.

Fair little printer

Printer works although a little noisy. The scanner is problematic. It will scan to ms paint but not the epson software. I have installed many printers over the years and this was the worst installation process ever. I had to upgrade the firmware in the unit, download current drivers from the support website, and fix the partial installation from included disc that caused the windows 7 64 bit laptop to hang when shutting down. After all that the printer prints well wirelessly, the scan works with the usb cord to paint only but it does scan.

Finally got the wireless printer from EPSON XP 400 and made my wife happy that now she can print from her Ipad. Install was easy even for a nontech like me.

Epson XP-400 -- So far, so good

Note that this is a preliminary review after only a few days of use. This unit replaced a much bulkier machine of another brand that was about 8 years old. The other one worked well but we were looking to move to a smaller, wireless machine so my wife and I didn't have to keep sharing the USB cable and tabletop location next to the printer between different laptops. The XP-400 is an attractive unit and setup to find and connect to our home network worked easily which was a relief. We have tested it with some printing on 8.5x11 paper and envelopes and also some scanning which was nice to do wirelessly. When we bought the XP-400 we honestly weren't sure if we could only send print instructions wirelessly or could also receive scan images. Two things that might be nice: an included USB cable (we took the one from our old machine and maybe that's what Epson expects most people will do) and a removable cover. I often took the top off my old machine when scanning large books for ease of use. The cover on this one does not seem to tilt back far which could be inconvenient in the long run. We don't often print with ink but expect that cartridges won't last long - just one of the compromises of an ink jet printer these days. Overall, quite pleased though it is still early.
