New KitchenAid French Door Refrigerator/Freezer

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We purchased this Refrigerator/Freezer about 3 weeks ago, when our old Whirlpool stopped working. We got a great deal on the purchase price, as we bundled the purchase with a new KitchenAid Range, Microwave and Dishwasher. We have been very happy with this new Refrigerator/Freezer. We like the Black Stainless finish. If someone can explain the best way to the exterior - specifically clean the Black Stainless front, I would appreciate it. One site stated we could use (car) wax on the exterior and only use a mild detergent mix with water to clean. Another site stated not to use the (car)wax (as this was for stainless steel refrigerators only). It has been clear that we should not use Windex on exterior, but to use only a mild detergent/water mix. Help, if anyone has any additional advise, please advise. The refrigerator/freezer we purchased did not have the water/ice dispenser, and we did not hook up the automatic ice maker in the freezer. I love that you can open the doors and see everything in the refrigerator. I like the freezer feature on the bottom. It is well lit and easy to see what we have stored. I rated this product as excellent.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this on the fly after a emergency at home. Kitchen Aid is used by professionals so that's a +++ in my book. My GE model had a Samsung compressor which discouraged me from ever purchasing GE again

Terrible machine

Some nice features, but shelf design is poor

I love the exterior look, but it seems as if the shelves are designed to give the least possible storage. The shelves don't extend to the back, so items fall off behind. The shelf brackets hang down so far that they also prevent good utilization of the space. This is especially true of the center brackets. The freezer has a large wire basket that things fall out of as well. Should you drop an ice cube, it's going to fall right through the lower wire basket and onto your floor. This model cost twice as much as my previous Kenmore, and isn't half as useful.

Fantastic Space

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Okay, I thought we were going to need a 2nd refrig for the garage. That was my original plan was to update inside and get a 2nd refrig for the garage. But I don't need a 2nd one. We have endless space and we entertain often. We actually got this refrigerator during our Kitchen Reno. We designed our space to accommodate a full size refrigerator because I thought we really needed the space. We don't as this machine is huge. We have had it 3 months now and it is perfect for us. We love the space. I have had a turkey and a ham in there at the same time. I have had several milk cartons, bags of veggies, pie crusts, butter, yogurts, tupperware...It holds everything we could possibly put in there. And it keeps my food fresh.
I was hesitant to get a KA. We have had Bosch in the past and even had GE. This is the best refrig on the market. I love that it keeps my vegetables and fruits tasting great weeks later. With our old Bosch this would not have happened. We live in a humid climate but the refrig keeps the produce and other products fresh. I like that compartments and they are easy to clean if you spill something. I like that I can put a full size homemade pizza right into the refrigerator and it has room. And there are NO smells. Each compartment keeps food fresh and smelling nicely. And it dings if you leave the door open. A soft but gentle reminder that you left it open. I like how the doors magically shut in a way to seal the inside keeping everything nice and cool. And the water tastes delicious from the filtration system.
The freezer appears small but there is far more space than you realize. The ice maker is stellar. We chose not to have a water dispenser as we prefer it inside the door keeping our outside door clean. We like that the freezer has compartments that pull on top of another drawer. And we love the shelves inside the refrigerator. Everything is built very sturdy and solidly. We are very happy we bought this.

Excellent but...

After loads of research hubby and I bought this refrigerator, and loved the fact that it works well, is white for our new kitchen, and is very quiet, all of which is important to us. BUT, be warned about the shelf's! The shelving does NOT go all the way to the back of the refrigerator, which I've never seen before so I didn't notice it at the store. There is about a 2" gap between the end of the shelf and the refrig's back wall. As such, anything small than a soda can falls through and falls/slides down the wall to the shelves below. What a pain in the neck and much wasted space!!! Whoever designed this refrigerator needs his head examined...
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
