90 day review. Conclusion - A great phone.

I've had my PRIV for about 90 days. I came from a BBerry Z10 which I used for over 2 years. My reasons for moving from what is probably the best phone OS currently produced (BB OS10) was mainly to tap into the Android ecosystem for apps that didn't run very well on the Z10 (like Microsoft Lync and OneNote). Here are my observations (and things I miss from my Z10).
- Call quality. This is by far the biggest plus of this phone. It has the clearest call quality I have ever encountered on any phone I have ever used - even Blackberry phones. I have talked to people that say it sounds like I'm talking face to face with them it is so clear. Some may say, why would this be such a great plus. Well... because it's a phone. :-)
- Android ecosystem. It is so much easier to install and keep apps updated than with the Z10.
- Security. The hardened kernel along with DTEK is a welcome addition to an Android phone compared to something like the Samsung S5 (which I used for about 6 months before giving it to my daughter and returning to the Z10).
- Fit and finish. A very polished piece of hardware. I've read reviews about "sqeaking" and a feeling of cheapness. That is far from the truth. This phone is very well made, has a clean look, amazing screen, and is pretty sturdy. I've dropped mine (in it's case) about 5 times (it's bigger than the Z10 so I'm still getting used to a bigger phone) and it's never had an issue. DISCLAIMER: It didn't fall on it's face and it was in a hard shell.
- Blackberry Calendar. One of the main reasons I have held off using any other phone. The Blackberry calendar is second to none. For professional users, the BBerry calendar cannot be beat for functionality. I've used several calendars in the Android market and none compare to Blackberry's, especially for conference call meetings and being able to one touch dial into a conference - with the calendar being able to understand what numbers to dial and in what sequence. The other calendars I tried were horrible at that.
- Blackberry Hub. The Hub is something that I became so used to on the Z10 that I did not see moving to another phone if it did not have that functionality of centralized communications. Some hate it. I love it. On the PRIV it isn't as integrated and not as smooth as on a Blackberry, but it comes pretty close.
- Battery Life. I have not had any issues with the battery life so far. I've never had to recharge it during the day and that is with the Wireless radio on. It does drain when using Location services, but every phone I've ever used drained in less than 8 hours when location services were used heavily (meaning GPS navigation).
- Physical Keyboard. This may not be a Pro for some. In fact, I'm still a bit on the fence about it as I'm still getting used to using a physical keyboard again. However, it should be noted that Blackberry's virtual keyboard is fantastic on it's own and still has the same accuracy and functionality as found on a BBerry device, which is better than any other device I've ever used from Apple or the Android market (Motorola and Samsung in my experience).
A couple of items that I miss from my Z10:
- Blackberry Notifications and Profiles. The notifications and profile customization available on a Blackberry has never been produced in the same quality or functionality on any other device I've used (iPhone or Android - I have used both). Yes, you can get 3rd party apps for that but it's something baked into the OS with a BBerry and as such it's easier to configure and manage than separate apps.
- Blackberry Calculator. Seems trivial, but the calculator on the Z10 seems more polished and even calculates tips and did unit conversions. I have yet to find one calculator in the Android market that can do this.
- No true gesture navigation. I was very attached to the way you move around and manage things in OS10. It is too bad this cannot (as of right now) be truly replicated on these Android phones. I can only say the navigation in BBerry OS10 is something you have to use to understand why one would miss this. Fellow BBerry OS10 users will know what I'm talking about.
Overall Blackberry has done a fantastic job with the PRIV. I have enhanced it with 3rd party apps to bring the speed and productivity I had with my Z10 to this phone, so I am pretty happy with having made the switch. Add having the Android ecosystem available and you pretty much have the best phone available on the market in my opinion. If you are a BBerry user who is thinking of switching, you won't be disappointed. If you are an Android user looking for a professional and stable productivity tool that rivals the other slabs out there, you won't be dissapointed.

My wife and I have owned this phone for a month now. It's hardware is that latested on the market, incredible speed. Phone is sleek and classy with nice battery, full 8hrs of work and go home with 70%. I'd recommend this phone to anyone. Before Samsung I was a blackberry owner, my wife and I dropped 2 Samsung note 4's for this phone and would never go back!!!!

Being a Blackberry user for some time, I decided to try BlackBerry's first Android phone. Although, I 'm not a huge fan of the Android OS, it has been better than I expected.....mainly because BlackBerry's presence is still felt in using the phone. The phone itself is sensational......I used a Z10 for 3 years and liked it very much. So far I really like this phone a lot. It's nice to be able to have so many apps available via Google play.

Real Productivity vs. Toys

I have owned them all (IPhone 6s, Samsung Active, blackberry) and while those are solid phones they are focused on a great experience for consumers. If your a professional leveraging enterprise applications there is no mobile OS on the planet that is as integrated an efficient as the Priv. Once I found an app that allows for Itunes integration the deal was sealed. Great job of blending the android and BB10 operating systems. It retained all the key workflow that BB has been known for while addressing the dreaded App issue... I would gladly have a face off with any serious user of apple and android phones and smoke them on speed. In fact there are some things on apple you simple cant do at all. Try forwarding an appointment on apple while using outlook exchange?? Have some guts and fight the trend you wont be disappointed!!

Happy, again!

I have been a BlackBerry loyalist since the beginning and have always been a happy customer. I've had the phone since about a week after its release, and, I'm still a happy customer. I loved my Z10, but, always missed having native app for Instagram and Uber on it (familiar with Android applications from a tablet)... now I have them (and a language learning app), and, couldn't be happier (not a huge app user and do not use phone to store music - I have too much and have dedicated iPod for that). Personally, I am happy with the camera... it is superior to that of the Z10, but, I also don't use my phone if I am trying to take better quality pictures... for that I'll always use my "good" camera.

People can't stop complimenting me on this phone. It looks and feels beautiful. Not only that but this phone is so functional and secure. The best of Blackberry security and productivity with the compatibility and fun of Android. DTEK is incredibly useful, the camera is great, and I love the duel function keyboard. Overall it's a fantastic phone.

PRIV- my first BB phone. Not dissapointed.

fantastic phone overall. the build quality is 5/5 with the dual edge screen and and quick tasks popping out when screen is on is very helpful. BB hub is excellent at gathering notifications, writing emails and keeping up with your stuff. battery life is above average however once android 6.0 rolls into the PRIV it will be even better. front facing speakers are loud and clear. the back design is extremely ergonomic, it wont fall out of your hands or anything. a case is not necessary either. quick charge 2.0 really helps. it charges almost 60% in around 30 minutes. love the BB apps and have the freedom of using an android.
has really cool nifty features hidden in the phone, watch reviews online or videos to find them out. you wont be dissapointed. plus, it makes a person different if you own a BB. its unique and everyone compliments the phone.
