nice features, some limitations

There was an issue with the shipping where the number didn't track with FedEx. It took three phone call between Mr. Coffee and FedEx to resolve it. It actually shipped a full week later than they claimed it shipped. The carafe actually has a feature that they don't advertise. It has indicators to tell you how full it is. I already have filtered water so I initially took the filter off of the top of the brew basket because I don't like that it's attached to the side of it. It gets in the way when putting in grounds and cleaning it out. The filter is not optional, it will leak coffee if you don't keep it in. This was dissapointing. Also, the book suggests 9T of coffee for a full pot, but it can't handle that amount of grounds without overflowing and leaking coffee. As long you keep the filter in and use less that what it states the full capacity of grounds are, you are in good shape. Overall, I like the coffee pot so far. I've been using it for a few weeks.

Excitement didn't last...

I received this coffeemaker as a sample to review and was excited to get it. Well, the excitement didn't last long. I will say that the first few weeks everything was great, the coffee was hot and tasted wonderful. The machine is quite large and you need space on both sides because the filter pops out of one side and the water reservoir is on the other. The lid to the water tank has a mind of its own and will not stay on sometimes. I ended up getting a permanent filter which made the coffee come out much better and was very easy to clean. Never could see the indicator lights showing how much was left in carafe. Slowly it has not been staying warm at all. Sometimes it will come out hot but by the time I drink just one cup the rest is luke warm in the carafe. Then sometimes it comes out just warm right from the beginning. The settings were easy enough and the pot was definitely brewing in the early morning before I got up. The whole house smelled of yummy coffee and when I got up to pour some I had to stick it in the microwave to heat it up.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great machine could use a grimder

The coffee maker does a great job at providing a fresh cup of coffee that taste great. It's easy to use and program for the next morning. The only real downside is that the coffee maker would be better served by having a built in coffee grinder for the freshest cup of brew

The Mr Coffee Optimal Brew is such an incredible coffee machine! I love that it is quick to brew and keeps your coffee piping hot in the carafe for hours! No need to keep the machine on and possibly "burn" your coffee keeping it warm. Fresh coffee for hours!
I received a sample machine to review it and couldn't be more pleased with it.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I was super excited to receive this coffee pot as a sample to review. I love the Mr Coffee brand and was extremely excited when I took it out of the box. The coffee maker was so modern and looked great in my kitchen. It looked like something you would find in a gourmet kitchen. The coffee is hot and we enjoyed having it. I did receive this as a sample unit to test in exchange for our review.

we bought this last week and can't believe the taste difference. We have well water and even others that claim they taste and do better, this one is the best we've tried the only thing is setting the delay, threw the book away( of course) ha! But can't figure that one out. Other than that, it sure was nice this weekend sitting in the living room with a hot craft of coffee that didn't need a potholder under. Stayed hot till all was gone

Good cup of coffee when it works

After some time with this coffee maker, the engineering shortfalls become obvious. We have had a DeLonghi, a Cuisinart, Black and Decker as well as numerous french presses and funnel drip makers. I was excited about having a reasonably priced maker with the ability to brew an above average pot of coffee.
The first carafe leaked when pouring. When I contacted the manufacturer they told me they don''t cover the carafe but would send me a new one. I expressed it was either a design flaw or a defect, and thanked him for the new carafe, which has worked without fail since we purchased it, regardless of the "coffee level indicators".
More recently, (the product is about a year old) It has become necessary to do a "brew check" before brewing as the stop brew plunger is easily dislodged from the indents designed to hold it into place. The resulting puddle of coffee and need to clean the entire brew route of grounds, let alone the mess has made this coffee maker destined for "dispose of properly" pile.

The quality of the pot of coffee it brews, cost per cup, is above average. The shortcuts in the engineering determine that as a long term investment, put your money elsewhere.

The coffee maker broke after 3 days. Also, it brews the coffee too hot and I feel this damaged the flavor. We bought this for the office and are happy it broke so we can buy another coffee maker, avoid this one.
