I bought this machine at least 5 years ago. I use it daily. I drink * bucks also, and can say my latte/ ice latte is just as good. I will never be without this machine, penny for penny I have never made a more wise investment for my happiness. Thank you Mr. Coffee for providing an affordable alternative to a thousand dollar machine. Which I could buy, but would be a waste.

Perfect little espresso machine

I've owned 2 of these over the last 5 years and they're fantastic little machines! The first I gave to my boyfriend (so I could have espresso at his house) and the 2nd has lasted me over 3 years now. I was a barista for years and ran an indie coffee shop for awhile, so I never thought anything could compare to a real machine, but this little guy is pretty incredible! At one point I even bought a $600 machine from another brand, thinking it would be better, but returned it 2 weeks later when I realized I missed my Mr. Coffee! It's small, so it doesn't take up much counter space and it's really easy to use. This model has enough water pressure to pull the perfect espresso shot (provided the beans are ground just right) and the steam wand makes microfoam (if you remove the black plastic piece). The bottom line is, if you know what you're doing, this will make a latte every bit as good as your favorite espresso shop.

GREAT PRODUCT

I have had this machine about 6 months now. I love love this machine. This is my first review I ever responded to and I just had to tell everyone how great it is. If you never have froth milk before it will take some practice. Just go to YouTube and watch and learn how to do it. I still go there and learn more on how to make an expresso. There's Allways something new to learn. All I ask from Mr. Coffee is to make this model with a warming tray. Other than that it's Perfect.

I just couldn't get it to make good coffee ...

I really wanted to like the Mr. Coffee ECMP50 machine, but I was completely unable to make decent coffee with it. I've used other pump-driven machines in the past; most recently a Lello 1375, which currently sells for about twice what the ECMP50 costs. After using the ECMP50 for a few days, I am sorry I didn't pay the additional money to buy another Lello 1375. Here's why.
The Lello is much sturdier. It doesn't move around on the counter when you take the brew basket out. The build quality is noticeably higher throughout. Everything from the brew basket to the base unit itself is much heavier. The parts fit together more tightly, especially the brew basket and filter; it's really annoying the way the filter flops around in the brew basket for the ECMP50. You feel like it's just about to fall out every time you empty the grounds. The Lello unit lasted for years of daily use, and only required cleaning/descaling every few months. Based on the much lighter materials used in the ECMP50, I have my doubts about whether it would last more than a year or two.
I will say the ECMP50 is quieter than the Lello, at least after the initial BRRRRR! you get when you first turn it on. It also holds onto the brew basket more reliably, so you don't feel like you have to have a hand on it during the entire brew cycle, just in case the handle disengages while the coffee is being made (the Lello tended to do that, but perhaps it was a function of not replacing the basket sealing ring more than every couple of years). One other good thing about the ECMP50 is that I expect you can get parts for it. The Lello has parts, but they are pretty expensive, and you must buy them through a New York distributor.
The Lello holds more water so you don't have to refill as often, and it has a more powerful pump, so you get your coffee faster, and what's more important, it tastes MUCH better. The ECMP50 seems to be very finicky about the grind, whereas the Lello was not. Too coarse, and you get watery coffee (poor extraction). Too fine, and you clog the filter. I've mixed and tamped using standard commercially ground coffee and still haven't got anything I really like. The readily available Starbucks grind doesn't seem quite fine enough. I've experimented with re-grinding to make it finer, but that takes a lot of work. It does, however, result in better tasting coffee.
Finally, I like to make a cup of Americano coffee using a regular mug. The Lello had enough space for most mugs to fit under the brew basket, the ECMP50 is about 1/2" shorter, and so very few mugs will fit underneath. I can live with that.
(Two Weeks Later) After trying all possible combinations of grinding, tamping, water, etc. I managed to get a barely passable cup of coffee out of the ECMP50. Not quite as good as a good drip machine, but almost. Basically, even when I filled the filter basket full of finely ground, fresh coffee, it still tasted weak and watery. I thought I'd be able to do better, after all, I've been using pump espresso machines for over 20 years now. But I finally gave up! It was too much trouble to return the ECMP50 for a refund - especially given that I'd have to pay the shipping to return it, according to Jarden Industries, who sells these, so I gave it away. I hope the new owner has more success than I did. As a simple alternative, I got a used Keurig machine, bought a reusable filter basket for it, and brewed a cup using regular ground coffee. MUCH BETTER RESULT! So I'll stick with the Keurig, and if I get ambitious, I'll buy another Lello 1375, which is what I should have done in the first place.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality features, and end product consistency. I'd read of some issues but wanted to try it anyway and the maker did not disappoint. I can make any kind of "fancy coffee" or espresso beverage, and can also make a cup of basic coffee. I really like the frothing arm, and it's easy to clean! The only thing I'd appreciate is more specific instructions: the drip pan needs to be emptied every time the machine is used. Also it would be good on the "quick instructions" to add that the grounds need to go into the metal filters. Other than that, happy fancy coffee making!! This product was given to me to review.

Good machine, but leaks still persist.

This is our 5th or 6th machine is 4 yrs. They rarely go more than 10-12 months before they leak out of the housing. One leaked within 6 months. We are heavy coffee drinkers and pull 8 shots or more a day. Quality of shots is good for the price, but you'd think they could eventually fix the leak issues by now. With the warranty you get 2 machines for the price, but the hassle of warranty orders and returns get old. For the price it's ok compared to the coffee shop. Someday maybe we'll find a reliable machine for a little more $ and switch. If it didn"t always end up developing a leak issue we'd rate it 5 stars. Would I recommend to a friend- only on a buy at your own risk basis.

We appreciate your loyalty to our Mr. Coffee brand. We're sorry to hear that you are having problems with the espresso maker leaking after a while. We'd like to make this right for you, especially since you have been a Mr. Coffee espresso connoisseur for years. We do have a newer model that just came out this fall, it is the ECMP60. Please give us a call at (800) 672-6333 so that we can assist you directly. We are available 9AM-6PM EST Monday-Saturday.
This is my second Mr. Coffee pump machine for the office and home use. They are just great. We've had expensive machines, cheap machines but none work better day in and day out as this little gem delivers the cup.

I've had this machine for two weeks and haven't gone to Starbucks since. Perfect for my quad iced white chocolate mochas.
