I have been using the same ECMP50 for nearly 3 years. I only average perhaps 3 espresso shots a week. The espresso may not be quite as good as a non-pressurized basket, but I really like what I get from this machine. My results are good and repeatable from shot to shot. I use only distilled water in it. I have never had to descale it. I have not had any leaks. I weigh my beans to approx. 15 grams, and pull a 2oz shot. I do not tamp, but instead do a very light 4-5 bumps just to settle the grounds into the basket. That gets rid of any big air pockets, and that's all you need since this uses a pressurized basket. My bean grinder is set just fine enough that if I tamp at all the espresso will only drip out instead of a steady stream. You really do want the steady stream, so keep the grind as fine as possible with no tamp and still get that steady stream. Don't worry if one side starts a second or two before the other. That doesn't seem to make a noticeable difference.

Cannot Froth Milk Properly

After happily using my Mr. Coffee steam espresso maker for a few months, I decided to upgrade to a pump machine and purchased the ECMP-50.
While this machine can pull a decent espresso, the frothing wand is terrible. I'm not a barista, but I know the proper technique for frothing milk. This machine can make either hot milk or an overflowing pitcher full of bubbles, with no in between. I've tried removing the rubber frothing wand attachment, adjusting the depth and angle of the wand, and changing the quantity and temperature of milk, and nothing seems to work.
This machine might be a good choice if all you want is espresso, but I do not recommend it if you want to make coffee drinks with frothed milk.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great affordable real coffee maker

I’ve now bought 2 of these coffee makers and couldn’t be happier. The first one lasted about a year before the pump went out. My fault as I left it on during a weeklong trip. Second one is going strong after 11 months

Leaks alot

Ive had mine two years and it has begun to leak so much. I clean it out carefully every few months to keep it working properly. I don't want to have to buy a new one but might have to.

The Best!

We have had this for over 6 months and use it everyday. We sometimes use it more than once a day! It makes the best espressos and this machine is incredible! Get it! You won’t be disappointed!

Awesome espresso maker and milk frother but leaks!

This is my third espresso machine from Mr. Coffee. I am so disappointed that the leaking water issue has not been dealt with. Is there a fix for this?? I love this machine but am getting tired of replacing it annually.
