reliable product, great for seniors

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have an Amana in my garage from 1992 and one behind my bar from 1996. They both are still working great even after I moved almost a year ago. I bought this model when I remodeled the kitchen at my new place and we love it. My Mother is 75 and walks with a cane, she lives with me and this model is great for her. This fridge keeps everything cold evenly, there is a lot of shelf space, the door also has large shelves. Being that my Mom is semi-handicapped we keep everything she consumes at her level so no bending down or high reaching, and nothing gets dropped. When people come over they can't believe how much room a top fridge has (they all have side by side doors). I thought that having a smooth finish on the front doors would get a lot of fingerprints but it cleans up very easy with windex and a paper towel. The fridge at my old house was stainless steel and never looked clean. I will only buy Amana refrigerators from now on I researched all of them but I went with Amana because of my history with the product. This is the BEST fridge ever.

Noisy

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I hate to be negative, but I have never had a noisy refrigerator before. Several times a day, often for more than an hour at a time, I will hear the refrigerator running, even when I’m in my living room. My visiting son thought we were having a wind storm.
A service representative, from the store where I purchased it, will be out to evaluate later this month. Hopefully it can be corrected.

Very satisfied with the overall machine

Great AMERICAN MADE product!

Compressor went out in less than three years, then 1 1/2 years later it went out again. This fridge is just awesome. Big open space in fridge and ample room in bottom freezer. Runs quiet. Very pleased.

Quality and value made in USA

Plenty of room, great features, and runs so quietly I hardly know it's there. One of the important selling points is that it was made in USA. I love everything about it, and am glad I made this choice.

Simple Elegance

I love that the Amana quality and pride of workmanship is still there in the new products. Purchased the unit without the icemaker to keep is simple.

Okay concept, not so good on actual usable space

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We purchased this unit because we had an Amana for the past 15 years, which was quite reliable. The older unit was standard Freezer on Top model. The newer unit is about 2cubic feet larger volume, but frankly it's less usable space. We have had to move a number of items formerly stored in our kitchen fridge/freezer to our basement freezers because they just dont fit in the new unit. Frankly, I'm disappointed. As a guy that's done some product design myself, I can suggest that the new unit was likely designed by a guy, and not by someone that actually uses the thing every day.
More background; I was part of a team that originally imported the Vestfrost units to the USA. I actually have some experience with completely new fridge/freezer formats. I was able to get used to the Vestfrost and make the space work, despite it being a considerably smaller volume than typical US units. Sorry to say that this Amana layout is just not as practical as the older model; more volume, less usable space. No wonder we have to import tech support.
