Loved it till it cracked in two places. I recommended to friends and theirs have cracked in the same place.

Solid Case

Overall, the Ottherbox Commuter series is a great case. I drop my phone often and it is still in perfect shape, no dings or scratches on the phone.
Aside from being a bit tricky to assemble on the iphone, its a great case.
Pros: High quality, Durable
Cons: annoying to assemble

While a great looking case this did not last a year of moderate use without a failure along the lower front edge area of the charging imput slot.
Another family member has the same case and experienced the same failure. Recommend another style of case as the polycarbonate is not thick enough nor strong enough in this area.
Cons: Not durable
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have several Commuter Series cases, because I like the variety! I've started to mix and match the silicone cases with the different color plastic shells. I agree with those who said the white gets dingy, so I took the white silicone part off and replaced it with black. It looks awesome with the pink plastic case! Additionally, it's durable. I have had a few cracks, but Otterbox's customer service is spectacular and responds immediately, honoring the warranty. I couldn't be more pleased with the product!

Already on my second case

I purchased the Commuter Case in Dec of 2012 and I'm already in the process of replacing it for the 2nd time. Both times, the plastic on the bottom of the case cracked. I am not hard on my phone. Sure I've dropped it a few times, but nothing that should have cracked the plastic.
The plastic is flimsy. Not very solid. Have read many reviews that say much the same thing - many having to be replace. You would think that Otterbox would want to replace flimsy cases with something more durable instead of having to replace them over and over again. the difference in price is about $10. If you replace the case with the Defender - you will be saving money in the long run.
Cons: Low quality, Not durable, flimsy plastic

Nice appearence, cheap quality

I've already had to contact Otterbox once about the case breaking. It just broke again for the second time right underneath the front button on my iPhone. It's a nice case but I do not recommend it unless you are planning on getting a new one every 6 months

I love the look of the case and how well it protects my iPhone. I dropped it from 2-3 feet on to an asphalt parking lot and no problem. Problem is after a few weeks, stress factors will crack and break the hard plastic case. I end up becoming an expert with gorilla glue to fix them, till I either could not fix it or it became unsightly. I called up OtterBox Customer Service, who always replace it without question and never gives me issue. I can't remember how many times Otterbox has replaced my case. For that, I am forever grateful.
My wife, son, and an neighbor has the same issue, so I am not alone.
Bottom line: no matter how much I like and appreciate the case and the great customer support, if the case can't last a month, I won't buy it again.
Pros: High quality, protects iphone, customer service
Cons: Not durable

This case does exactly what it needs to. It does protect your phone. There have been countless of times when I'd have my phone on my lap and forget it wasn't in my pocket when I stood up. The plastic on the outside helps the phone not stick to your pockets. However, it does slide around on a desk that has an incline.
I had the case for a year before it needed to be replaced, mostly the plastic on the outside was cracking on spots, sometimes from taking it off, other times from hitting sweet spots when the phone hit the ground. The rubber inside also wore down too. The charger tab was about to fall off when I got the case replaced.
My only real complaint is the headphone jack. A lot of times I have to take the case off to plug the phone into a cable. While this doesn't apply to headphones, it pretty much applies to everything else where I've used audio.
