Not Best Choice for Durability

I was very happy with my Commuter case initially, especially the low profile it has and how easily it fits in my pocket. However, the hard outer shell never fit quite right over the inner rubber case. The charger/computer cable port stopped closing properly after a few weeks of use. The white rubber case also began to discolor, turning a blue-jean color from sliding in and out of my pocket. I cleaned it several times, but it never looked the same.
After about five months of use, a 2-foot drop caused the outer shell to crack at a weak point, near the headphone jack. To be fair, this isn't OtterBox's most durable product. Even still, it was disappointing.
Overall, I'd stay away from this if you're looking for a durable case that will handle heavy use. Even still, the quality well exceeds that of anything other brand I'm aware of, hence the 3-star rating. I'm going to try a different model OtterBox case this time around.
Cons: Not durable

Great Product

My Girlfriend and I have both just bought the commuter cases for our iPhones. They are great and they fit amazing. I didn't have a case on my phone for a couple days because I bought a cheapo and didn't realize how bad an investment it was until I tried taking pictures and it started producing glare from the flash that whited out my photos. So I got an Otterbox it's perfect I feel so much more confidant with my phone from drops now than ever.
* on a side note... My girlfriend got the Pink and White commuter case and she likes to slide her phone into her jeans when we are out and about. Well the While rubber is now tinting blue from her jeans and the case is only a few days old. she was upset but it doesn't affect the way the case protects the phone.

From the first day that I got my new phone, I knew that I wanted an otterbox to protect it (I actually bought one before my phone had arrived!).
I really loved how it looked on my phone, but the white did get super dirty really fast. I did find that a Mr.Clean Magic Eraser took out most of the dirt, but it was kind of a pain to clean it every other day.
After about 2 weeks, I noticed a crack in the plastic shell by the cutout for the apple logo. I filled out the online form, and sent in a picture, requesting for a different colour. The next day I received an email saying that they were processing my order - in the colour that I had requested!! This is definately the BEST customer service that I could have wanted.
I am an OtterBott-er for life!

Ok I love otter box I had one it was pink and white they only thing about that is that when you have any kind of makeup on it goes for the white and gets it dirty. So I got a new one new color and loving this one a lot better I didn't buy my iPhone care and protection like I should. And I know this will help me with that I drop my phone a lot so that's why I bought the otterbox and it has not disappointed me so far.

I drop my phone all the time. This case is great. I have had this case for a year now and do not have the breakage problems you all talk about. The rubber however does start to get a bit peely. I dont really care about how it looks anymore because mine is old and now my friends have discovered you can use the rubber part as an eraser. As long as you don't let anyone use this case as an eraser, you should have a super long lasting case... and phone!

Perfect fit

I am ordering my second Commuter after using my first for about one year. The Commuter fits perfectly on my iPhone 4 every time I take it off and put it on. The silicone layer with the polycarbonate on top is one of the reasons I love this case. The silicone fits snugly around the phone, keeping dust and water out. Otter does not consider the Commuter a waterproofing case, but it has protected my phone a few times from minor spills. The headphone jack and sync connection point each have a silicone flap that plugs in to the phone, sealing them up. I like having those points protected, without having a sliding plastic piece that you will find on many models. I used the Iceberg color, and the white did get a little dingy on the front edges, but that is after one year of consistently resting the phone on the front side. The silicone layer helps to keep the phone from sliding around too much. The iPhone 4 is a very slippery phone- I don't want to put a hard plastic case on that just compounds that problem. If you are considering a phone case, I think that the Commuter is worth your money. It offers great protection for most people, it comes in a variety of colors, and is high quality.

Good buy - Does what it should

I opted for the Commuter series and I've had the common drops that others mention in all variations without a problem for my 4 and 4S. I also own a Defender case for the more dangerous missions in life (international travel, weekends with the family and yard-work). Both perform well for their specific roles, fit the phone perfectly and have saved it numerous times. I would strongly recommend this case to anyone looking for a simple fit, great protection and a phone that can slip into your pocket without an issue.

I now own a defender commuter and impact case, the commuter is in my opinion by far the best, defender is too much, impact not enough the commuter is perfect, the finish is good and it fits no problem, also otterbox deliver to me in the uk in a couple of days
