The Otter Commuter I had lasted almost three years. I just replaced the Commuter for my iphone4 because the corner cracked after it fell out of my jacket pocket onto the concrete floor. I glued it back together for a couple of months until it finally came apart. The rubber/latex lining is a good design but a little flimsy. I took ok care of my phone and the Otter was a good insurance policy for my phones longevity.
I would recommend the "Otter Commuter" to anyone who needs a durable phone case/cover.

My OtterBox has saved my phone numerous times :) it has been dropped on a cement floors and pavement a time or two and my phone did not suffer a scratch!
It was the best investment i ever made!

Disappointing case, but excellent warranty

My Commuter broke within a few months of buying it. It withstood a couple very short drops and was undamaged. The tabs on either end just snapped off when I tried to remove my phone from the hard case. Finally the back of the case cracked in two when I tried to remove it again. I was not being rough on it and I can count on one hand the number of times I took the phone in and out. Very poor, must have been defective.
I sent away to Otterbox's Warranty department and received a new case in a couple days. Great service, and the new case seems to be fine so far. I'll follow up when I try to take the phone out.
Pros: good warranty, did protect my phone
Cons: Low quality, weak plastic

My wife has the commuter now, and she can't stop telling me how much she enjoys it! She used to have the defender, which is great, but the slimmer commuter works much better for her going into her wallet and/or purse. Color combo is great too. She loves it, and I'm glad I got it!!

My case broke from over use at the area where you plug it in to charge. I called Otter Box and the person one the phone was super happy,helpful and clear on what Otter could do to help.
I received a new case (even though the case was over a year old) within a week. The new part though did not fit with the old part I still had. I call Otter back, and again was really impressed with their customer service. They sent me a whole new case and it has worked very well!

Love my case and choice of colors. Best protection out there. The hard shell did crack and they replaced quickly and easily. The silicone lining does stretch and lose it's shape after 8 months or so, but still works inside the hard shell. Wouldn't recommend white silicone lining as the white gets dirty quickly. Bought one for my teen daughter as well. Will get one for the iPad.

I've broken my Otterbox in the same place twice in the past year, but I think that's only because that's how my phone lands every time (bottom right or left corner. If the bottom was a little more enforced with thicker plastic maybe it would not break as much. Other than that Otterbox is fantastic. My iPhone has been safe for two years since I've been using it as a case (knock on wood). Plus I'm a sucker for products with cute marine mammals.

If you're looking for a case to cover your phone, this one is great. Keeps most of your phone in good condition while you use it. The downside is in about a year I've already had to replace it twice. Thankfully otterbox has their warranty, so I got a brand new one in the mail, but overall I'd just spring for the defender model next time.
