This is the first cartridge I have purchased on line that ran out of ink after printing 5 pages. A return label was sent, but I was called out of town and unable to retrieve it.

I bought this xl cartridge thinking I would be all set didn't notice the web site switched to 906 instead of 902. My mistake, tried to drill new cartridge to suck ink out and put it in old cartridge, but just made a mess of it. Bottom line is make sure the replacements are compatible before ordering.

Hi,
I'm very sorry that you faced this situation. That sounds frustrating.
There was a misunderstanding though. While the printers that use HP 902 cartridges usually have the whole set with the number 902, there is also the option of getting the higher capacity XL, with black ink, that has the number 906.
It is a bit confusing, but unless there was something wrong with the HP 906XL cartridge, it should fit into the slot for the black cartridge and can replace the black HP 902 cartridge.
when printing a black and white copy there are horizontal lines throughout i have removed the cartridge and replaced and there is no improvement
Pros: Lightweight

Hi,
I am sorry that you getting horizontal lines. I can understand if you are disappointed.
Since the problem persists when you change cartridges, it is not a cartridge problem. There is a possibility that your printhead needs to be cleaned. Your printer should have an automatic routine to do that. Check the user guide, if you don't know how to start the cleaning.
If that helps, the printer might have been turned off using a power strip or switch. The power button on the printer itself should always be used to turn it off. That will let the printer 'park' so that the printhead is protected from excess drying. That can cause clogs to form in the tiny nozzles that spray the ink onto the paper.
If that doesn't help, the settings might need to be adjusted. If all else fails, you can contact us for help: hp.com/contactHP
Everything went according to plan. I ordered, they delivered, the ink went into my printer with minimal effort and I sent back the old cartridges in the "PRE-PAID, environmentally friendly" envelope provided by HP. If you care at all about where the used cartridges go, use this process!! It's safe, it's fair, it environmental, and most of all it's "Convenient"!!
