So far I have received 4 of the 906XL cartridges and in each case when the cartridge was taken out of the cardboard box and the plastic wrapper was removed ink began to spill all over the place out of the fill hole. I have used the 902XL cartridges with no issues.

Hello,
I'm very sorry about this happening to you!
Please to not hesitate to contact us, for help with this, at: hp.com/contactHP
When I went to peel off the plastic strip to load it in my printer, ink spattered everywhere. It was a mess! I had to throw it away. What a waste of money.
I paid for Saturday delivery and shipment didn’t show until 3 days late! Then 2 of the 3 the xl 902 black inks were damaged and won’t operate in the print very disappointing

Hi,
I am concerned that you had poor page yield from the cartridge. It seems that you should have been able to print more.
The estimates of pages printed are based on industry standards. How the cartridge will perform in real life situations will vary quite a bit.
Provided that the cartridge is not damaged or defective, the ink usage will determine how long it will last. High-density prints (such as photos) will require more ink, especially if the paper is highly absorbent and the environment is dry.
If you suspect there was something wrong with the cartridge, which caused the poor performance, you are always free to contact us for support anytime: hp.com/contactHP
Instant Ink might be worth a try. Many customers like our available plans. They're based on how many pages you print monthly, which can save you money. You can check out the details at: HPinstantink.com

Normally I have no problems with HP ink and have had excellent results, however this time it appears the ink is bad or something because it does not print well. It seems that the ink is old as it is very faint. This was very expense and not really happy this time.
It is February 14th, and I'm replacing a high yield cartridge that I purchased December 2, 2018. My copying and printing requirements are minimal -- and I was away for four weeks between December 2nd and February 14th.
The expense is great for a "high yield" cartridge that, seemingly, is not. But there seems to be no alternative except to seek a printer brand with less expensive cartridges. HP has us financially captive.

Hi there,
I am sorry that you had this experience. That does sound frustrating.
Provided that the cartridge is not damaged or defective, the ink usage will determine how long it will last. High-density prints (such as photos and graphs) will require more ink, especially if the paper is highly absorbent and the environment is dry.
That said, I have a few tips that might help lower your ink usage: - You can use the printer's draft mode and black-only settings, whenever possible, to save ink. - Shutting the printer down between uses can also help; however, always use the power button on the printer itself to turn it off. That lets the printer ‘park’ so that the cartridges are protected from excessive drying. - Instant Ink might be worth a try. Many people like our available plans. They're based on how many pages you print. You can check out the details at: HPinstantink.com
If none of those tips work, and it seems that the low page yield was caused by a defective cartridge, you can contact us to return it: hp.com/contactHP
