I originally ordered a 902XL black ink cartridge for my printer and received a 906XL which is compatible. A month later nothing was printing out. I don't print much and thought my printer was broke. After much research and time I decided to replace the new cartridge with the old one I had. It printed so I finally narrowed the problem to the new cartridge. After vigorously shaking the cartridge and splashing ink all over the place in finally worked. I suspect it was a very old cartridge that started drying up.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Hi,
I am very sorry that this happened to you, especially since it required some research to get printing again. I hope to help this situation though.
Shaking a cartridge is never recommended. I am guessing that the printing resumed because some clogs in the printhead were loosened when the cartridge was removed.
Your printhead likely needs to be cleaned. Your printer should have an automatic routine to do that. Check the user guide, if you don't know how to start the cleaning.
If that helps, the printer might have been turned off using a power strip or switch. The printer should always be turned off using the power button on the printer itself. That will let the printer 'park' so that the printhead is protected from excess drying. That can cause clogs to form in the tiny nozzles that spray the ink onto the paper.
If that doesn't help, you can contact us for a replacement: hp.com/contactHP
If I don't print for 3 - 4 days, I have to clean print head and realign print head to get it to start printing non blank pages. Had no problem with 902xl cartridge.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hello,
I am sorry to hear that you are having to cope with so much cleaning. I can understand that this must be frustrating!
If cleaning helps, there is a good possibility that the printer has been turned off using a power strip or switch. The power button on the printer itself should always be used to turn it off. That will let the printer 'park' so that the printhead is protected from excess drying. That can cause clogs to form in the tiny nozzles that spray the ink onto the paper.
If the problem continues when you use the power button, you can contact us for a replacement: hp.com/contactHP
