Overflows and ruins the heating pad

I bought it 6 months ago and had used it ever since, but no matter what I do the dripping coffee leaks over carafe down on the heating pad. The heating pad is chipping like crazy even though I try to wipe it off as soon as I see it. I am kind of afraid to use it. Also the top lid of carafe is pretty flimsy. Maybe the one I bought was faulty, but I do not think it is safe to use if other ones leak like this.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
