Does not show humidity level or percentage of room, like it's supposed to.
This has been an ongoing problem, even with the previous model. Come on Holmes... Fix it already! Otherwise, it's a decent humidifier...

After receiving two Holmes humidifiers that did not work, ie., the humidistats did not work, this unit is amazing! Though a bit large for our retirement apartment, it does a wonderful job maintaining the set humidity level. Further, the large capacity tanks are wonderful. I feel that you went overboard to accommodate us. Thank you! Vertn Lund

I bought this around 30 days ago and hate it. It's noisy on high. It does not kick on and off when humidity level is set.

Issues: capacity and noise. -- My older larger humidifier unit with twin larger fans died. This appeared to be the largest capacity unit from Holmes available here but tech specs shown were unclear and unspecific - but I gave it a shot anyway, hoping for the best. I wanted no techo frills - just something that would do the basic job. Received the unit and for 3 weeks from end-Feb to early-Mar (when moderate atmospheric humidity returned) ran it full speed 24/7 set to be on all the time. House is 4000 sq ft on two floors. Unit appears to be somewhat inadequate for this size area. Only able to bring humidity from 19% to 30%. Looking for 50%.that older unit achieved. 12 hour tanks capacity under these conditions. 30% humidity is OK but to achieve this, it had to be on all the time and the background noise of the always-on-max-fans was always there. Bigger capacity unit could be set to medium and to run as-needed resulting in lower noise. As for longevity, only time will tell. Recommended for smaller-volume premises - perhaps to 2500 sq ft, maybe 3000. Note: whole-house water softening system appears to lengthen the time between needed filter changes significantly. Condition checked weekly and no mineral build-up noted even at end of 3 week use.

Non-working Humidistat other features not too bad.

I bought unit to replace my “old” Holmes HM3600 humidifier which was still working and had a great variable automatic humidistat by turning a knob. It looked beat after many years of service. After using its replacement for two weeks it’s time to comment.
CONS: Humidistat useless only works on fully on; I wanted to give it a chance to possibly correct itself but no. I leave in Arizona and today checked outside humidity which was 16% (my readings were 15%) and the humidifier has not ran in 36 hours. The inside humidity was 6% and this low humidity could not encourage the Humidistat to turn on by itself at any setting other than “Stay On.” Guess it could never have an Energy Star rating. As criticized by others it only has two speeds low and super fast/loud. They could have given it a lower high speed so that the fan would not blow so fast past the wet filter and might be more efficient in picking up moisture.
PROS: Although it has no sensor to tell it the unit is out of water of water I like the ability to look at the translucent water tanks and see the actual current levels. It appears that the location of the filter seems to keep the filter from clogging up as quickly as my old unit that used the same filters. I still use the Hard Water Additive from Holmes as in the past. This was another a reason I bought this model as I had stocked up on the HWF75 filters and did not want them to go to waste. I like the new water fill location and in my case work great at the kitchen sink. No problems with leakage but when the unit was new the first fill splashed some water out of the tank holder. Three pros and two cons gets a 3 out of 5 rating.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The humidifier puts reasonable amount of water in the air over a 12 hour period. The tanks were bit smaller than i thought on the web site, so I have to fill them more than I expected.

Oldie but still a Goodie!

My Holmes is at least 23 years old and it's still going strong. I've dropped one of the tanks and cracked it, but after a little application of epoxy and duct tape, it works just fine. As far as filters are concerned, I would buy them if I could find them, if not, I just bought another brand with a similar looking filter and jury-rigged it to fit. Worked just fine. The only problem I have is trying to clean the fan blades. I discovered a couple of screws waaaayy down deep in a couple of holes, but so far I haven't had much success in being able to unscrew them. They attach the housing to the motor and fan blades. I WILL figure it out, just need to find the right tool.
