I was looking for a solar panel for this summer to add to my teaching kit for the wilderness kayak courses I do for the Ontario Sea Kayak Center. I used the panel first on my weekend courses and then the wilderness courses. Hands down both the Solarpanel 5+ and Alpen Glow have become an essential part of my kit. Over the course of my six day trips in the middle of Georgian Bay they were vital to my comfort and security, especially the Solarpanel 5+. It is super easy to use and the most reliable panel I have ever used. The Alpen Glow was the perfect light for my tent and the variety of settings allowed me to have a little fun around tha camp as well (the multiple colour lights I call PARTY MODE). Truly great equipment that you can COUNT on.

Do not waste your money on this solar charger. After sitting in bright direct sunlight then charging phone, the SolarPanel 5+ actually drained charge from my phone!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Doesn't seem to charge newer phones

The solar panel is great because it charges the internal battery fast. I'm able to charge various devices with the panel and I love that I was able to attach it to my backpack and charge as I was hiking the trails. The only problem is that this panel doesn't seem to handle charging newer phones (with USB C). I don't know the reason why it doesn't charge a OnePlus 5 or 5T but I suspect it asks for more juice than the panel can handle and the panel just shuts down.

Will not give phone a full charge

For the price of this charger I was surprised at the amount of charge it would give my Samsung S7. From 15% battery it would only charge my phone to 52% before the power was depleted. It only has a 2200 mah battery so makes sense that it will not fully charge a phone with a 3000 mah battery. So before purchasing know that it will only give your phone a partial charge. As far as charging its own battery from the sun it is the fastest I have seen in that regard. Maybe 3 hours in full sun to fully charge the 2200 mah battery. For $79 they should really put a bigger battery on it than 2200 mah.

Not worth it

I bought this to use during a thru hike of the Arizona Trail. The battery never kept the phone charging unless it was in the sun. And in the sun the thing only charged my phone a MAX of 20% when it was fully charged. The panel never blinked more than one charging light despite being in 90+ degree heat in the southern Arizona sun. This meant that it would take 2+ DAYS to actually charge up. If it can hardly work in the beating Arizona sun I wouldn't trust it anywhere. Overall a frustrating, underwhelming, hardly functional product. Very very disappointed.

This solar panel is perfect for my needs. I have worked to create a go-trunk in my car which will allow me to set up a camp with a tent, sleeping bags, seating and enough food for 4-5 weeks. However, during the emergency I also have a go-backpack in the trunk to get me by until the more formal camp can be set up. This panel meets my need for a power source for my phone or tablet and easily fits into that backpack.
