Works well. Instructions need improvement.

Trial charge of phone and recharge by sun worked well 1st time. Would give a 5 stars but instructions need improvement. For example Button and Charge Indicators are mislabeled on diagram and need to be more specific that Button needs to be pressed down once to charge device (and occasionally afterwards).
I would recommend this to a friend!

Well built and light weight

Bought the Solar panel 5 about 3 or 4 years ago. After many years of use backpacking in the High Uintas the smaller battery in the original Solar Panel would only charge the nearly dead battery in my Phone half way, because my new S20 battery is 5000mAh. To fix this I purchased the newer Solar panel 5+ with it's larger battery. Now I can set them up in the morning before hitting the trail and strapping them to my pack and even if I drained them the night before by charging the Phone, GPS, and lantern I can charge again at lunch break and then again when I pitch camp. Absolutely amazing! They have now gone with me for what should amount to months on the trail. Sturdy and seemingly bulletproof they have both survived everything I could throw at them, including a tumble down the mountain or two while strapped to my pack. I will be buying more in the future and recommend everyone else does too. They have served me well in power outages to keep my smaller electronics charged. Goes from dead to full charge in 4 hours in good direct sun. The sundial on them works great for aligning the panel for maximum charge rate. I highly recommend to anyone who asks me about them. Similar products weigh about 4 ounces more per panel and when ounces count, this is the product I will continue to choose.

Great product & still going strong

We bought one of these 7 or 8 years ago... whenever it was first released. We don't use it that often but in between charges our unit has held 4 out of 5 lights on the meter for over a year sitting in a book case. Unbelievable. Charging a device while simultaneously charging the panel is genius.

Best solar panel on the market

I have tried Joos Orange, Goal Zero and Biolite Solar Panel 5+
The Biolite 5+ is by far the best solar panel out there.....by using the sun dial you maximize the energy collected (a big advantage).....the stand can be placed at many different angles (big advantage).....it is very durable....charges iPhone, tablet and other Biolite products very well.
Joos Orange costs almost twice as much and has problems collecting energy (because of positioning)....Goal Zero is just cheap junk (very flimsy)
Bottom line I bought a second one

making a difference to Chadians

I don't personally use these products as I bring them for gifts to friends I work with in business development projects I am dong in Chad Africa. You can see by my purchases I purchase one and give it to someone to use in Chad as I have found that some things are not meant to be used in Africa. The solar panels I have purchased in the past are working well and holding up, so I have purchased additional this time for some Nomadic Fulani friends. Only issue that has come up is that when its 110 degrees they tend not to work well in that high of heat, but otherwise very happy with the product. I bought and brought another brand to give to this same Nomadic Fulani last year and it only lasted for 1 week in the bush. Your product has lasted over a year so far, and will let you know the results from time to time.

Power Board

The 5+ has so far inspired my whole family. In our garden there are 4 such boards and mostly look towards the sun. In the last camping holidays I had them on my trailer and it looked like a small solar plant, I even had too few consumers to use the energy gained. The board is enormously resilient and I could imagine that I could cut my onions into small pieces to cook on it...

Off Grid Help

Recently my daughter and her family purchased an off-grid home. I gave each of the 4 children one of the SolarPanel 5+. Their new home does not have a much extra electrical power, so each of the children now set up their SolarPanel 5+ in the sun before school and when they return, they can charge up their tablets and phones without having to draw power from the home system. It has been working well and is a great blessing to them. Thanks Biolite for making this rugged, reliable source of energy.

Worked stopped working

It was working than it shut off. It's really.moody. I need a more reliable device..I traded it in for the 2.0
