Update to my iPhone not charging.

Okay, I could not find my original 2 star rating of this not charging my iPhone. Even though this solar panel has a battery it appears you have to plug in your device take the system outside and expose it to the light. then the system turns on.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Lovin' the sun

Received my Solar Panel 5+ a couple of weeks ago and have used it repeatedly at the beach. The sun dial feature makes using the solar panel a breeze. It's durable, but wish it came with a cover. Note sure if it's the sunscreen on our hands or we touched it when it was hot from the sun, but it's covered with our "finger prints". Tried to wash it off, but no luck. Doesn't bother me and product is working great. Can't wait to take it backpacking. I've got several Biolite products and love them all! Good job Biolite!

Great Product

I'm a camp master (read camp mom!) for group of adult medieval recreationists at a very large event. We've used a large heavy solar set-up for several years to charge phones and laptops. It works but is clumsy, bulky and a pain to pack in and out as well as requiring considerable storage space.
When I saw this at a reasonable price AND the company does good works in developing countries I thought...I need try this.
I'm very impressed with how well and fast it charges a phone!
Our biggest event is coming up in a few weeks and I can't wait to show these to my friends. I'm thinking the bulky, heavy panels are about to go into a yard sale!

I bought a second unit today, the Power Light Solar Kit. Now I can also get rid of my bulky, battery powered lanterns too!

Fun Tech that Works!

I enthusiastically bought my SolarPanel 5+ a couple years ago. Besides being frugal and a big energy saver in the home, I love being prepared while outside (where I go frequently). Two years later it is still working quite fine and it complements my now more rounded out Biolite collection by having potential to partially charge the CampStove 2 and the Base Lantern. However, I think the possible buyer should bear in mind that producing 5W is not a lot and a 2200mAh battery doesn't do much for many devices. To put it into perspective, you would need 200 of these units working in tandem (& properly aligned to the sun!) to run a standard microwave. Granted these units aren't meant for anything like that but I think that visual helps. Secondly, I think the SolarPanel 5+ was designed with its contemporary devices in mind. It probably works/worked well to charge the IPhone 4, etc. However, the full battery alone has never completely charged either of my Moto phones (Droid MAXX or Z2 Force). Rather, a full SolarPanel 5+ charge charges my Z2 Force about 50% when in airplane mode or 33% when not. The 5+ seems best used when already fully charged & positioned in full sun. Though I encourage buyers to consider my findings & the 10+ instead (this wasn't available when I bought mine 2 years ago), I do like this product a lot & recommend it to those interested. Be sure to take Biolite's advice to keep it cool (off of your dash) for max charging. Enjoy!

Spent the entire day at a beach in Michigan and used my phone to play music while charging with the panel. All day long! Then when the sun started going down, I still had 98% charged! Didn't let me down! Love it! It's a keeper! I hope it lasts !

Just got my order earlier today. Of course this is not the only item, but this review is to show redundancy...I also ordered the the entire Nano Grid...
The Power Light came out of box with 2 LEDs of charge...
I Plugged it into the solar panel(which also had 2 LEDs of charge...after 2 hours the Power light was fully charged. it took an additional hour to bring the 5+ up to full charge
The functions are above expectation. In September they gear will get the full on test...
